Wonderful Honeymoon at Bel Jou

Anne T (Guernsey, United Kingdom) on Dec 20, 2025

The staff were incredible, from our arrival to departure, they treated us like family. Special mention to the lovely Jem on reception, Jevon for the wonderful omelettes and cooking tips, Alvin for making my birthday special, Andrea for singing to me beautifully for my birthday and Tinika for the wonderful cocktails and making us smile. The room and view took our breath away on arrival, super clean and the cleaner was excellent during our stay. The hotel sits on a hill overlooking the ocean and a regular shuttle service to town and the beach. The staff ensured you felt welcome in every part of the hotel, especially the guy who manages the events and daily exercise classes, he has a lovely, friendly vibe and ensures everyone is happy! We felt the stay was excellent value, with endless meals, snacks, drinks and coffee. I am vegetarian and always had plenty of options in all meals. The hotel had everything from pools, to bars, entertainment, coffee shop and someone always on hand to help if you needed it. The hotel was peaceful during the day with guests mingling and chatting, after dinner there was lovely entertainment like steel bands and reggae singers. The hotel was a lovely space in all areas, comfortable beds and plenty of areas to relax. Thank you to Dean the general manager and all the staff for making our stay better than we could ever have imagined!!

Not a 4 star review

At first glance, Bel Jeu is a quaint little resort high up on the hill at Castries. First for the good news...rooms are spacious and the cleaning staff do a nice job. Lovely views of the Carribean from our balcony. Now for some negatives...sorry I really do hate to complain. While others have raved about the food, I must disagree. I am not a fan of buffet style and Bel Jeu held the standard for luke warm food. While there was variety each night with a theme, it literally tasted the same. We ate at the specialty restaurant the Hummingbird. Nothing special about it. Mediocre at best with a massive surcharge if you wanted a steak...$60 to $75 USD. Three choices for dessert. The hotel is not on the beach, so you must take the complimentary shuttle or risk your life an walk down a very steep road. The shower was a typical cruise style and very small. If we were lucky, we would get hot water mid afternoon. They seemed to have issues with supply as they ran out of lettuce and the fixings for a pina colada. The nightly entertainment went from karaoke to a fireeater and limbo night (that was the best). The property is showing its age and some serious upgrades are in order. Staff were friendly enough but tend to go on island speed. Overall not a horrible place, but certainly not 4 or 5 star.
