Our main reasons for choosing the Bel Jou were the reviews and the local vibe. Boy, were we not disappointed. ALL areas very clean, from the room, lobby, halls, restaurant, bar and tables; no fault at all. Any time of day, all the toilets were very clean, well-stocked with paper products. The cleaning at this hotel is outstanding. We had a fabulous time at the Bel Jou. Check-in in was warm and friendly. We went in a well needed air-con room to complete paperwork and pay the tourist tax. We were given drinks and a cold peppermint infused flannel which was a great touch. I have never been to a hotel where ‘ALL’ the staff are friendly, happy and give a genuine hello and stop and chat as and when needed. The hotel management should be very proud of them, as they work darn hard in the heat. From the hotel manager David (had a good few chats), to Sam (amazing and took on a lot of feedback), Princess (funny as hell), Devon (great guy and loves a chat) and Manuel (our nickname for him, great addition to the Bel Jou team); the whole team is outstanding. Room: Amazing room with plenty of room, hangers, iron and ironing board. The bathroom was of a good size and felt spacious. The room and bathroom spotless. We had to chase towels and toiletries a few times, but this is the laid back vibe of the hotel. Breakfast: The choice at the buffet was excellent. Everything was spot on. Coffee service improved after chatting with Sam (amazing lady). The homemade rock cakes are morish. Lunch: Again, a great choice of food for all tastes. You will never fail to find something. Local food was great. We ate at Lulu’s Cabana restaurant most times where service is very laid back. The chicken chipotle wrap was one of the best my other half had had in her life. Dinner: The buffet restaurant, had a good choice. The flank steak was great as was the jerk chicken. The beef pie was amazing. Drinks: As you would expect, branded, plenty of ice and mixed how you like. The self-serve by the lower pool has the right choice. There is a self-serve coffee bar available. The fresh and homemade cookies are too good and are dangerously scrumptious. Entertainment: The BBQ night is amazing, make sure you stay in for that. A lovely BBQ on the terrace, with steel drums and then a fire show. There are a couple of local bands and singers that visit. Bel Jou – keep up the excellent work, you have a great team. When back in St Lucia, we know where we are going to saty. We have a lot of holidays each year (as you will see in my reviews) and see many hotels in many countries. I also give honest reviews as we see it.

We have just returned from a 10 night stay at the Bel Jou. We loved every minute. The staff, the food, the location. I would imagine this hotel is on the smaller scale compared to other well known resorts in the Caribbean but this is what makes it such a lovely place to stay. We had an issue with our room on arrival but this was sorted quickly the next day and we were able to move rooms. Other than this initial problem we had no complaints. I can’t speak highly enough of the staff. Very friendly and happy to help. Lots of genuine ‘hellos’ and good conversations. The food is very good indeed. Enough choice and we particularly liked the local cuisine options of an evening. We ate once in the Hummingbird which was easy to book into. Entertainment was also good. A couple of good live bands and a DJ requests night. Shuttle to beach also very easy to book. We used the tour guide situated at Bel Jou to book our trips. Good value for money. Two decent size pools and also no mad rush to secure a sun bed every morning. Very civilised approach with most people leisurely reserving a bed on the way to or from breakfast. So refreshing not to have a mad dash!! Important to note that it is not easy to walk out of the hotel of an evening if you wanted to go to the local area of Castries. Hotel is on a very steep hill so you would need a taxi or hire car. But other than that it was a lovely place to stay and I would be happy to stay again in the future.
