Time of my life

Irina S on Apr 27, 2024

It’s my third time in the hotel Melia Las Américas. It never disappoints me. I love the hotel staff a lot. Everyone is friendly and always ready to help. The territory of the hotel is not that big but cozy, well organized and beautiful with lots of greenery and vide beach. Special thanks to animation team Elsy, Jordy, Denis for making our every stay pleasant and lively.

Lovely resort but non-smokers beware.

zandris2024 on Apr 27, 2024

This was our fourth time to this Melia resort and in general it’s a lovely place. We’ve stayed twice in a classic room and twice in a Level suite. The Level rooms are fantastic and worth the upgrade if you don’t mind walking to your room. Our room was very clean and without issue for our entire stay. It’s a small to medium sized resort which is nice and Cuba being Cuba you can’t expect much in the way of the food but it seems that this visit really hit home with lots of shortages in both food and beverage. But the majority of the staff here are wonderful and eager to help and you could see it pained them to tell you they didn’t have something you asked for which reminds you how dedicated they are to their jobs. We really only have ever had issues at the Limoncello restaurant with unfriendly staff on a consistent basis. The food at the Limoncello has improved slightly since our last visit so that was a plus. There are always things some guests find fault with but we are generally easy going and put Cuba resorts on a different scale than other Caribbean countries. However, my reason for this review is the obvious lack of acknowledgement for non-smokers. The only non-smoking areas are indoors. Therefore, to enjoy the beautiful outdoor paradise at this resort as a non-smoker is a futile attempt…neither the gorgeous outdoor cafe’s, pools, or even the beach are smoke-free or even have a non-smoking area. While at the beach we could only hope the wind was blowing and we tried to predict where we could sit to avoid being surrounded by smokers. Trying to enjoy ourselves only to constantly have smokers lighting up on either side of us. Then when you thought you could head up to the cafe overlooking the beach and enjoy a late lunch, a drink, or a cappuccino and the view you were again surrounded by smokers at an even closer range and were forced to inhale clouds of first and second-hand smoke as there is no area for non-smokers. So while smokers will read this and have declared me the annoying one I beg you to for a minute to put yourself in a non-smokers shoe. I realize you are on vacation as well and want to enjoy yourself but it’s sadly at the expense of others. Ultimately, this is an issue for the hotel owners and local by-laws which are clearly behind the times and if I was a smoker this would be a paradise where I have free reign and preferred status because that is clearly what we’ve experienced each time we’ve been here.
