Disappointing Shortfalls

maa206 (Marshall, Minnesota) on Jun 19, 2024

The property and complex are well maintained on the whole. While there were positive encounters with pool, food and beverage, and housekeeping staff, there were service shortfalls elsewhere. Brooklyn at the front desk was disinterested and visibly miffed at having to check me in. She seemed to mock my Platinum status (even though I never mentioned it) by immediately stating that there were no upgrades, while chuckling. Again, I never asked for any. Then, she reluctantly offered the amenities that accompany the status. The check-in was cold, impersonal, and hostile. The most disappointing encounter was with a bell/valet person on my last day. I was screamed at for attempting to load my luggage under the portico. The valet berated me the entire time. My attempts to escalate to management went nowhere. Alphonso did call me but seemed unfazed by this encounter. To have paid resort fee and parking only to be screamed at and ignored is unacceptable.

Served its purpose

Overall the stay was good. While more economical than other DIsney resorts at the outset, be aware that parking is exorbitant, they add all kids of fees to your bill, including a resort fee of $45 per day. They say you get internet but I already get that as Titanium. They say you get access to a gym, pool, and fitness (don't you expect that at any hotel?) I don't want to ride a swan so don't charge me for it. At the rate, all those amenities should be included. The location is great if you are visiting Epcot or Hollywood Studios in WDW. There is a lot to do not too far away as well. The hotel rooms are basic and in need of some TLC. The room we were assigned had a nice view of Epcot. Check-in person (Brooklyn) was not friendly or helpful at all, barely looking up at us during check-in. Would make a request or say something and would completely fail to acknowledge. I wonder if it was a hearing issue, if then I could overlook. I didn't need to interact with any other staff so I am not sure if it was that one person or lack of training. Sadly this was our first impression. So different from one would expect at WDW Resort. Pool is a nice area. If you can't find one at the main pool there are some smaller pools that are less crowded (though more basic). Besides check in interaction and the fees they tack on, it was a fine stay.

They try hard but……

The rooms were ok, good location. The service, however, was terrible. Forgot items for breakfast each day we ordered room service, needed an extra 15 minutes at checkout time and charged us. Over 15 minutes? With their ridiculous parking and resort fees, couldn’t stand to not charge us for 15 minutes?? Walt rolls over in his grave.

Disney/Marriott World Swan Hotel

Another fantastic stay. Just their basic 2 queen bed room but very spacious huge tv and if you ask for a high room a good resort view. Cleaning staff were excellent and came every day. Do account for the parking and resort fee in you holiday budget or book with virgin and both are included in the price. We always use the Dolphins Phins bar for pre dinner drinks. Always a good atmosphere.

Renovations, dirty sheets, bug bites

GailM276 (Utica, NY) on May 04, 2024

One of the worst hotel experiences I’ve had, certainly the worst on Disney property. I’ve stayed at the Dolphin and loved it, but this was a nightmare. When we checked in, our sheets were dirty. They also had Queen sheets on a King bed. How could that happen? It took a few hours to get them changed, and I had wanted to nap. When they finally were changed, it was only the filthy top sheet. The stained bottom sheet was still the same. I originally booked a room on Disney property but it was being renovated, and I have a need for afternoon rest due to a medical condition, so I rebooked here. Big mistake. This hotel was undergoing renovations but they didn’t tell guests ahead of time. I called the manager and she said if the noise was bothering us we could move the next day (sunday). We had already unpacked and there was no noise on Sunday so we declined the hassle. Monday and Tuesday the noise was hammering and drilling and gave me a migraine. I couldn’t rest midday. I called to move rooms but there was no availability at that time. I tried to relax by the pool (few umbrellas and very little shady spots), but couldn’t due to drilling/setup over there for a big conference. I didn’t get to use my park tickets due to noise preventing rest, causing migraines. On top of all that, the rooms don’t have any clock, the lamp USB outlets didn’t work, the TV service was in and out, and bathrooms have no ventilation. It gets very warm and with the AC at 60 degrees it was still 70 in there, muggy after a shower without a bathroom fan. There is also no bath mat to get out, so I used a hand towel. The bathroom door opens up against the opening to the shower, within inches of the toilet. Cramped and uncomfortable conditions in the bathroom. I also woke up each morning covered in more and more bug bites. I’m not sure if it’s bedbugs but I will have a doctor look this week. The pattern of bites matches (3 in a row). I could overlook most, but with no daytime rest during a renovation that could have been avoided had I been warned, every small thing added up.
