Save your money - pick the OTHER one you've been contemplating - its probably better than Sunscape.

Would not Recommend at ALL. Value for money is zero at this resort. Super limited food options (horrendous for vegetarian and other dietary restrictions) - some restaurants you cant even visit if you have kids. we were happy to get home. Didnt expect this from a HYATT property.

Worst property I have stayed in Mexico

Johnny J on Nov 23, 2025

Honestly, it was the worst property I have visited in a very long time. We stayed for one night to check out the condition because the reviews were very mixed. I'm glad I found a room available the next nights at the Hilton resort on the other side of town. I will never stay at this property again.

Good family resort, delicious food and fun entertainment

Emily H on Nov 15, 2025

Staff were all very friendly and helpful! Travelling with 4 kids was a lot and they went above and beyond to make the kids comfortable Only downside was a cut from broken pool tiles for my youngest which ended her swimming on the rest of the trip.

Sunscape…a mixed bag.

corrianne80 (Portland, Oregon) on Nov 13, 2025

This place is a super mixed bag- but given the chance I’d go back and pick somewhere else. Honestly, I should have known what I was in for when one of the first employees suggested that we move to Dreams or Secrets because they’re much nicer (the upgrade suggestion felt really odd). Food: Solidly ok. Some dishes were slightly better than good but some were really mediocre (think lower end buffet). Combinations in the buffet are kind of haphazard (themes aren’t super well excuted and other options feel thrown together). There is a real lack of variety at Sunscape in general with the only options being buffet, De Marco (italian- it’s ol but not high end like they try to sell it) and the Grill swap nights. The Taco place wasn’t available when we were here- so I can’t speak to that. Dessert was strange for the most part. Drinks: Coffee at breakfast was surprisingly good. Adult beverages are what you’d expect from low end cruise- drinks usually made from juice were often hyper-sweet and they’re quite weak. (again…as expected from an all you can drink situation). Staff: Bellman, Dining and Housekeeping were fabulous. Friendly and so helpful. Other staff (front desk, concierge) were pleasant but it felt like a lot of work to get anything done in a way that I’ve never experienced in many hotel stays elsewhere. Room: Initially, we were told our room was ready and went up to find housekeeping was still turning it over- we were told to wait and come back and check in later to see if it was ready. First room had an A/C that did not work- on a 90 degree day it was 88 in the room. We were moved to another room in the tower and it was an improvement. Pool: I saw other reviews call the pool dirty and thought, “that has to be an overstatement” but it’s super cloudy and relatively crowded. It closes at 7 (which seems super early) but when it’s open expect to hear the music throbbing from your room if you have a resort view- we were towards the top of the tower and it was like it was next door. Common Areas: Other than the rooms- the common areas are NOT Air Conditioned and tended to get really hot and stale. If you’re from somewhere that’s not hot…you may want to consider elsewhere (it’s less the lack of A/C and more lack of proper air flow). Something I did like was that it was a good mix of domestic tourists and folks from elsewhere. I prefer to be at places that feel a little authentic- and while the environment wasn’t, the people were. Value: I got it on points via Hyatt (18k per night) and while that’s low for Puerto Vallarta- it’s honestly not a good value for what you get). To sum up- I’m going to quote my Uber Driver- Don’t Look at a Horses Teeth. (he meant don’t look a gift horse in the mouth).

Wonderful workcation

Bertha Guadalup... P on Nov 11, 2025

Everyone at Sunscape PVR was amazing. Kathia and Alex were great at answering emails and ensuring a special anniversary surprise from the concierge. On-site, Coral was the most amazing, engaging, and lovable concierge ever. But the people I truly want to recognize are the team at your Da Mario restaurant. We bought a Chef's special dinner and asked for it to be hosted there. (To be honest, your romantic dinner menu here is lacking)—and it was the best decision ever. From the moment we arrived, Captain Ricardo treated us like royalty. Our table was privately set in the wine cellar, romantically decorated. He gave us welcome cocktails and had a bottle of bubbly white wine already chilled. He knew we had a special dish paid for but offered us appetizers and anything else we wanted from his own menu. When it was time for the main dish to be served, Chef Jesus Jalomo came personally to explain the dish and to tell us the process behind the modifications he made to make it safe for me, as I have several allergies. Usually, restaurants just remove the problematic items. Not here. Chef Jalomo went above and beyond to make sure I could enjoy the experience. Our waiter, Lemus, and the captain were alert and attentive throughout the whole meal. We were so comfortable and everything was so on point that we stayed until closing time. They also gave us a dessert sampler with a "Happy Anniversary" message on it. We decided to dine at Da Mario on our second night. No extra fee, nothing extra paid. The captain and his team again gave us the same romantic space in the wine cellar, recommended dishes that weren't on the menu, and made everything absolutely amazing. We decided to go back on our third night, and they didn't disappoint. We even got a flambé coffee from the captain. That man is an absolute treasure. Sunscape Puerto Vallarta gave us a good experience overall, but Da Mario? That was the best experience we've ever had at one of your properties and deserves recognition.
