Barcelo Buffet

Great service from Alexandra and Ana at the buffet. Variety of food and drinks. Kids loved it and so did hubby. Less people then last year at the same time.
Perfect first all inclusive!

This was our first all inclusive, and it was perfect! We really enjoyed the food, especially Al Fuentes (never had meat so tender!), the flow rider, the windsurfing, the swim up bars, and sun!

Ruined my vacation

After completing a medical treatment, as a reward to myself I booked what was meant to be a relaxing stay here SIX MONTHS ago. This resort was recommended to me by a family member who comes here often. I specifically booked two beds and even emailed the resort to remind them of this given how important it was. I was sharing the room with a male family member, not a partner. I also struggle with a sleep disorder. My journey to the resort started with a pre-booked shuttle I had to spend TWO HOURS at the airport waiting for. When I checked in, they had assigned a room with one king bed. When I explained that I had made a specific request, I was told there was nothing that they could do for at least 4-5 nights, and to check back then. Again, this is a booking I had made SIX MONTHS in advance, yet they assigned the room to someone else. Since sleeping in a single bed was not an option, we had the tiny sofa made up as a bed for the second person—which is incredibly unfair (given we both paid for the room equally) and not particularly comfortable. In all of my travels, which are extensive, have I encountered not being able to get the requested bed arrangement. And again, this wasn’t some last minute request. It was a critical request made six months ago, with follow ups. Next: Our bathroom floods overnight and I have the misfortune of stepping in that liquid at night. I call the front desk in the morning and someone comes up, but nothing is fixed. I call again and another person shows up. The front desk calls to tell me he’ll need an hour to fix it and can they do it while I’m at dinner? I agree. When I come back at night, the bathroom is once again flooded. Exhausted, I call a third time and they send someone up. The guy tells us that he’ll go sort it with the front desk. We wait half an hour for a call, and no one rings us. I call the front desk multiple times but no one picks up. At this point it’s around midnight and we go to sleep, putting down some towels. This is ridiculous and a health hazard. While asleep, we hear a knock on the door that wakes us!!! I ring them again in the morning, and they offer to change rooms (mysteriously a room becomes available with two beds, btw). Although I’ve never asked for an upgrade in my life, I’m so frustrated by this experience that I say: “I think given the situation, it might make sense for our room to be upgraded at least since we have to move?” The person I speak to replies, “Sure, let me check with the manager” and basically never calls back. Eventually, I ask to speak with the manager at reception and she tells me that a room will available in another day. So they ultimately upgrade me, with minimal apologies, no help moving luggage offered, and basically I wasted most of the day on the move and arranging to get keys, etc. Other than this, our first room had an EXTREMELY loud AC that kept waking us up. We could barely sleep those nights. The second room, was much nicer as it was a junior suite and finally had two beds to sleep in and the AC was more quiet, so I think the AC in our room was also broken. (I also had some weird incidents like the maid taking my used robe and face towel and not replacing them, but on the scale of things these are minor). As far as food goes…if you like decent food, you’re going to be really disappointed. I was preparing for average food, but not quite as bad. Some of the restaurants (which fill up fast) were ok, but most of the food was just not that pleasant to eat and the staff seemed deeply indifferent, though a few were quite nice. Cocktails were all over the place…I’ve had a few really good ones, and a few not. Bowling alley food is inedible. The buffet had a few decent choices. Some of the fruit was good, and others…completely unripe. Oh, and the wifi didn’t work in the rooms for several days—as well as not working in lots of spots around the beach area overall. As for the positives… The resort is kept very clean and looks nice. The beach is lovely, but depends on where you get in. Some areas are extremely rocky and very unpleasant to get into, but if you find a way in that isn’t, then you’ve got some nice swimming grounds with fish and turtles. This was the only redeeming part of the trip, being able to swim on the nicer beach. The gym is spectacular and they have some classes, like yoga, though I didn’t get a chance to partake. If I didn’t have the issues above, I would have probably been able to overlook the food in favor for the beach--- but am so disappointed at how the resort treated us. Unfortunately the resort itself ruined the rest of it.
Great Place for families

Great resort with plenty of amenities and pools for the kids. The food was always great, and we didnt have any hint of sickness from it (not always the case down south). Staff were great and friendly. Only issue was VERY loud music from the Caribe theater that went until just after 2AM one night. Not sure why events crew though it would be a good idea to keep the majority of people staying there up for the benefit of a few partiers. Consider checking with who had that music that loud as it kept our room and other friends up to just past 2AM.
