Not a luxury experience

Rooms are dated and not maintained up to a reasonable or 'luxury' standard - wonky wall lights, dodgy electrical sockets and no USB ports, not enough sockets. One of the Pillows smelt of vomit. Strong chemical smell and very damp room smelling of damp which lingers on clothes.
Grand Bahia Coba. Maybe we expected to much!

PROSS: INTERNET available in the resort all day not just an hour, clean, well maintained, large rooms, good food for a 3.5* maybe 4*, staff extremely nice, good for the price, a la cart: Le Gourmet exceptional , the two Japanese and Tourtuga are good, Mexican Tequila would avoid, family with kids resort, nice/impressive reception entrance for all four resorts CONS: huge resort (actually are 4 resorts, Coba being at the "bottom" ) "playa" with rocks need water shoes, drinks basic, TIP: villas 17-21 not bad if you get the view towards the pool (the other side is near the highway)
So Disappointed

The good things: the weather was lovely. The pools were nice and the resort was clean. Rooms were clean and comfortable. The rest: food was bland and mid. Definitely designed for a boring palate. Two of the bartenders and the Bingo/Loteria crew were amazing and friendly. Everyone else made you seem like a burden. Everything costs extra! The term all inclusive needs to have a huge Asterix afterwards. The only beer you can get for free is Dos XX on tap that comes in a juice tumbler. It is 4% alcohol. Any other beer you have to pay for. Table wine is free. Any other wine you have to pay for. You have to pay environmental fees and other hidden fees. Everything that is at the resort other than the food and drink costs big $$. 2 woven bracelets cost $51 CDN. You don't realize as you have to pay in pesos. We were told we had to attend a presentation from AirTransat our first morning for "our safety concerns". It was 100% a presentation on their excursions. The excursions are way too overpriced. DO NOT take the eco tour excursion to Sian Ka'an that AirTransat offers you! It cost over $600 CDN for 2 adults and the snorkeling in a coral reef (which was the key selling point) was cancelled last minute due to weather. You do not get any money back. Also our tour boat ran out of gas in the middle of the ocean and our guide was on another boat. I can't say anything good about this excursion.
Excellent Vacation!

We just spent a week at Coba, it was very good. The a la cartes, were very good and the buffet was good as well. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. If you have good service, dont be afraid to tip something even at the buffet. Special shout-out to Israel at the front desk, very friendly and helpful. The junior suite was a little dated but was clean and comfortable, nothing wrong with it at all. There are several resorts on the property, so using the shuttles are convenient, if you dont like walking. The beach for Coba is a little small but decent, the water is good for snorkeling with lots of fish and a bit of a coral reef. Get to the beach early to be sure to get a closer lounger. If you prefer quiet, ask at the front desk when you check in for a quieter area. Before you arrive download the app for the resort and book your a la cartes, they fill up fast. I believe about 10 days before you check in or something like that you can book them. This is good value for what we spent. If you are expecting luxury or five star, this probably is not the place for you. You get what you pay for in my opinion. We are well travelled, in the caribean as well. All in all, very good and we will be back.
