BlueBay Grand Esmeralda has closed the hydrotherapy circuit for work until mid-December but all other spa, gym and salon services are available.
Two pools are scheduled to undergo remodeling in stages with the dates being approximate and subject to change. From September 18 – October 20, 2019 half of the main pool by the beach will be closed. The smaller pool at the back of the resort will be closed from October 21 – November 20, 2019.
Overview
The BlueBay Grand Esmeralda, conveniently located a short distance north of Playa del Carmen, is a resort surrounded by lush jungle, mangrove swamps and outstanding views of the sea. Kids club was fantastic!!! It was a great break for our kid to do some children’s activities just for kids. Helped jeep him on a structured schedule outside of our school routine. He had a TON of fun, and gave us some child free time time to relax knowing our kid was safe, entertained and having fun.

We stayed here the same time last year. Concerns we had then have not been corrected. While beds are good, the rest of the room is very outdated. Only place to sit is bed or desk chair – we used to have a sofa. Internet is sporadic. AC works either freezing cold or Off. Cement on balconies is falling (in fact, a piece hit our neighbour.) Paint is flaking, roof thatch is falling. A large piece of thatch fell in the buffet the morning we were leaving and no one cleaned it up. Need more lights in the hallways and stairwells (Bldg 5) – very dangerous at night. Cleaning staff is good. Worst thing is there is still NO HOT WATER! Construction on the new Circle One area had stopped last year and is still stopped. Food in the buffets is unchanging, uninspired and limited in choices - same every day. Speciality restaurants food is reasonably good. Need “Contains Nuts” warnings on buffet signs and menus. Staff is very good – kudos to Ruberta, Candido, and Esther. Beach is cleaned regularly. Lots of erosion. Major improvement in Circle One beach area with lots of new lounges – David does a great job. A few days before we left many new lounges were placed around the pools. Except for the beach and pool comments, nothing has changed in the last 12 months, in fact it is further deteriorating. Resort needs much improvement. If you are budget conscious this resort is for you, but remember, you get what you pay for. We said we would give it another try and we did. We will not return.
