A wonderful relaxed vacation!

henrichw2017 (Schwerin, Germany) on May 16, 2024

We spent 2 weeks in this wonderful resort. We had breakfest and dinner each day in the Las Olas restaurant and were really happy. The food was excellent and the employees well trained and extremly nice and attentive. Particularly Manuel took care of us. After a few days he knew our favorites and brought our preferred juices and coffees even before we ordered. A wonderful relaxed vacation!

Service and Pools

Ben W on May 15, 2024

The resort was great! There was a bartender named Mariano at the middle pool who made sure we enjoyed our stay. The restaurant views of the ocean were incredible and the rooms were amazing. The variety of pool areas also provided great atmospheres.

Great experience at Mahekal!

Nomad35463494029 (Greenville, Wisconsin) on May 14, 2024

The service at Mahekal was excellent! Everyone from the wait staff to the spa. The waitstaff was always quick and ready to help. My family of 3 got massages at the spa and it was amazing, others from our larger group also loved the spa treatments. Hope to return some day!

A lovely hotel but it has a nasty sting in it's tail - so beware!

happysun (UK) on May 09, 2024

In many ways it pains me to have to write bad things about this hotel as it is rather lovely: beautiful grounds, right on the beach, low-rise rustic thatched accommodation (which could do with a bit of TLC), 3 lovely pools, great food and drinks and (in the main) friendly staff. But there are some things that you need to know if you are booking this hotel - especially if it's the 'All Inclusive package' via a Travel Agent from the UK. You will have a nasty shock at checkin! Even though you may have booked 'All Inclusive' you will have to pay an additional US$35 Resort Fee per room per day and an additional US$15 per person per day Service Fee (apparently upfront tips) plus an environmental tax of approx. US$2 per day per room. This equates to approx. US$67 per room per day. The information on the Mehakal Beach website says that all these fees are included in the 'All Inclusive' price, except for the environment tax. The sting in the tail is that we were told at checkin the 'All Inclusive' price only applies if you "book direct with the hotel". This is not mentioned on the hotel website, nor in the 'All Inclusive Experience' flyer embedded in the website. Our travel agent did not know about these fees either. In the UK you would not be able to get away with this as it is very misleading. The sting left a bitter taste for a party of 50+ guests staying at the hotel for a wedding. It's a real pity as the majority of the party liked the natural beauty of the hotel. So, my feedback is please change your website and flyer to make it absolutely clear what additional fees guests will have to pay if not booking directly with the hotel. And please make sure your third party suppliers also know. There is no reason to hide the additional fees and if you don't make it clear, the bad taste will linger longer than is should and this would be a real shame.

Relaxing, wonderful vacation!

212barbw on May 06, 2024

We absolutely loved this resort! The atmosphere was so relaxing. The tropical feel, shaded, cool breeze from the ocean and the individual huts all make the ambiance amazing. The staff were attentive to every detail and were so friendly. The landscaping is tended to daily. Also, there is security on site everywhere so no one but guests are allowed in the property. Food was very good but not the best but most hotel food isn’t. We plan to come back!
