Outstanding Responsive Staff

The staff was friendly and accommodating. Many of them greeted usas we passed wherever they were working. If there was an issue, personal or hotel related, the staff exceeded our expectations. During our stay, we encountered a few minor issues. In particular, Tawana, a member of the housekeeping staff, passed thru the breakfast buffet just as it was closing and we were leaving. I believe she was on a break. She inquired about our stay and I said it was ok, but she could not accept that it was not great, and continued asking about any problems. I expressed that I preferred a firmer bed. To make a long story short, after each complaint she was persistent and soul as if there was anything else. Within 15 minutes, she was at my door with the person responsible for my room prepared to adjust the firness of the mattress. She told me that she had filed a report to correct a problem with a television which was corrected shortly. She addressed my final item, related to the historic building and explained how I could avoid it in the future and then returned to her responsibilities.
An amazing hotel, but no on-site parking unless you want to pay an extra $69/night for valet parking

It's Embassy Suites by Hilton, so we got a nice room, spacious, with a nice bathroom. Lots of counter space around the sink for toiletries. Bathroom was clean and so was the shower curtain. What I Liked: 1. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean. 2. Breakfast was included - omelettes were made to order, and there were dollar pancakes, turkey sausages, potatoes, eggs and toast. What I did NOT like: 1. Most critical drawback is the lack of parking. When i was researching hotels in downtown Portland, parking was a priority feature, for obvious reasons. This one came up because it does have parking... BUT, only valet parking is available at $69/night. 2. I have to take medication, so i always appreciate when hotels have a complimentary bottle of water. this one did NOT. Instead, they had sparkling water cans for $5 each. 3. The sausages and turkey sausages at breakfast were undercooked! They were white. I tried hard to find a few with just a bit of brown spots but it was certainly not enjoyable. The dollar pancakes were very tough. Not sure if they were left over from the day before or if it's an issue with their recipe. All in all, i would not stay here again. I will probably find a place near the airport instead.
