Glad we took the risk and stayed

It is a shame to see so many rate this resort so harshly. Based on what we read before arriving, we thought we were headed to a dump. Far from it. Could the resort use some minor upgrades? Sure, and those are planned for once the neighboring former Sunscape is updated and converted to a Dreams, but Secrets is no heap of trash. The pools are clean and well-maintained and all the pool and beach furniture is in excellent shape. We never had an issue with lack of beach towels or poolside chairs. We were in building 41, which was in good condition. We had no problems with hot water; the housekeepers were reliable and the mini bar was fully stocked every day. The only issue we had in our room was that the coffee machine did not work, but it was fixed the same day we brought it to housekeeping’s attention. The staff are amazingly friendly, greeting you and smiling even when passing them on the grounds. From the bellhops, concierges, housekeepers, bartenders — everyone — they all live up to the famous Mexican hospitality. David at the Preferred Pool was great, as were the gentleman at the Sky Lounge and Leslie and Jesus at the front desk. The restaurants were fine but the food could be a little hit and miss. If you find Raymundo, he will stir you in the right direction, both with the restaurants’ good selections but especially the wines. We had some amazing Mexican wines thanks to Raymundo. He even had us try Ollio on the neighboring Dreams property. Yuriana at Bordeaux was a delight; I wish I could remember the servers name during lunch at Market Cafe because she was a gem. We have stayed at several Secrets, and I think this was one of our favorites, right up there with the one in Saint Martin (which is now being remodeled). We met a couple who had been returning for a decade, and that should tell you a lot, especially since they could stay anywhere. In fact, we’re considering returning next year, too. It was an all around pleasant experience for the entire week. If you were born with a silver spoon in your mouth or normally stay at Four Seasons, maybe it won’t meet your expectations, but it is far from the dump some of these reviews make it out to be. We interacted with many guests, and none had any complaints. In fact, we met one couple from Dreams that complained about not having hot water over there and another guest who was moving to Secrets from Dreams because of it being too loud.

Not worth the Money

Brenda L on Jun 14, 2025

The rooms and staff were wonderful. However, the Resort itself was in need of repair and unkept. The pool area was dirty and there were broken umbrellas and chairs. The pool bar closed at 6pm on Friday night. The food was not very good and the restaurants that we were supposed to have access to according to the website were rotated so half of them were closed every other night resulting in less food choices and long wait times. Others were only open to "preferred guests". Buffet restaurant was located at their sister property next door which was quite a walk. Not all areas of the Resort were available to all the guests. There were areas, restaurants and bars that were only open to guests who paid an upcharge to be designated as "preferred guests". Beach chairs and umbrellas were broken. Pool was dirty and in disrepair. The cost of this all inclusive is not worth it and I will not be returning.

100% Perfect to kick back relax NOT 5STAR OR PARTY RESORT

Angala G on Jun 12, 2025

Once we made it to the resort it was FANTASTIC!!!. We had a nightmare getting there and was in contact with the resort and amstart the whole time. When we arrived they where waiting. Everyone did their best to make up for American Airlines issues and the fact we lost a night of vacation. Our room was clean, and ready for us. Couldn't ask for better. The soak tub is massive and a dream when relaxing. The housekeeping staff kept it clean and stocked no issues. The restuarants where closed some but using the app made it easy to plan what to have for dinner. We enjoyed trying new foods and if something wasn't to our liking we nicely ordered something else. No issues with it. The pools and beach close at sunset to give staff time to prep and get ready for the next day. The resort shops are pricey but thats to be expected when you are paying for the convience of not leaving the resort. We are already planning our next trip for May 2026

Would not recommend

Jeremy L on Jun 12, 2025

Food was very commercialized. Paid for an adults-only resort only to have kids running around from the neighboring resort on multiple days. Paid for a Preferred room where the plunge pool was broken and water flowing to balcony below. Ceiling fan, room fan, and phone by bed all not functioning. Blackout curtains didn't even cover the windows. Would not recommend staying here.

Secrets is the only way to go!

Whitney S on Jun 09, 2025

It was the perfect resort and amazing staff. All the restaurants were great. Market Cafe and Bordeaux were our most frequently visited. The staff at Market place- Rosanna, Kenia, Elizabeth,Mario,Ricardo,Alberto’s and Gaspar were exceptional at making our ding experience always the best. Truly one of the hardest working resort staffs I’ve ever seen. Constantly keeping the grounds clean and making things look nice. We will definitely be returning!
