Great escape to Royalton Cuba
Robert D on May 10, 2025
This was our first trip to the Royalton and not the last. It was the greatest escape for paradise and hospitality . We enjoyed a great variety of food and we did not miss on anything.. beach is a 6/5. Service is 5/5. Amazing staff! Our best butler in house is definitely Leo. He made us feel like we were family and at home away after 5 minutes in. He provided everything we need and there to listen to us. If you want to spend a little extra Diamond club is the way to go! My daughter and I just spent a week at this beautiful resort. The beach was fantastic, even on the days it was windy. It was well maintained. There was no seaweed and the ocean water was so clear. The rooms and resort were very clean and well maintained. They offered a good variety of food options with the buffet and the 4 a La carte restaurants. The staff were very friendly. We were very fortunate to have Nelly as our butler, as she was wonderful! There was nightly entertainment too. We especially enjoyed the Cuban and Rock night shows. We will not hesitate to return to this resort!
We will be returning

This is our 2nd visit. Best features for this all adult resort is the staff. David was our butler, ask and he arranged. We were in bungalow 25. It's in a really quiet area, our own little pool and quiet shaded cabanas for afternoon naps. Food was great. We ate at the bistro for lunches, fries sandwiches and burgers. Followed by ice cream (7 flavors). No need for reservations unless it's a large group. We loved the Armadillo, Texas Mex. No power issues, no shortages of TP or napkins.
Pleasantly surprised! Big Thumbs Up!

We had been the Cuba once before (Grand Memories) and were expecting a similar experience of awesome weather/beach with mediocre accommodations/ food. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised! The weather and beach did not disappoint, but the resort went well above our expectations! We had a standard room, which was spacious and comfortable, with a view of a small, quiet (but a bit cold) pool. The electrical outlets ran on 220 volts, so we needed to use a converter for things like phone chargers and curling irons (I tripped the breaker when I plugged my curling iron in through the converter, but it would never work after, so went around the rest of the trip with frizzy, messy hair. Lol). Our friends upgraded their room, which provided them with newer furnishings, 110 volt electricity (no need for converters!) and USB ports, but the footprints of the rooms were the same. Each building had its own butler (ours were David and Carlos). These guys were available to accommodate our every request. David made sure that my partner's and brother-in-law's birthdays were memorable by having our rooms decorated accordingly and setting up reservations for our favorite restaurant. When you talk to people who have vacationed in Cuba, the one complaint is usually the food, but this place is an exception!!! The buffet food was tasty, varied and lots of it! Raul was our go-to guy for daytime meals there (couldn't meet a nicer guy!) The á la Cartes were wonderful; in particular, the lamb at Caribe, the steak at The Pearl and the view at the Beach Grill (go during sunset) were exceptional! The ice cream bar offers delicious homemade ice cream and the bistro had awesome coffee! Gladys, who was a hostess for various restaurants, was a beautiful, gentle soul. The main pool was surprisingly uncrowded (even the swim-up bar) , with no shortage of lounge chairs. Beach was the same: we did not need to get up early to find a spot! The resort offered the typical social activities (foam party on Friday afternoon was so much fun!) . Highly recommend the Royalton Hicacos Resort and Spa; we will definitely be returning there!
Review of staff, service and general atmosphere

This was our first time traveling to Cuba and we are so happy we chose The Royalton Hicacos. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel so welcomed and met with the most beautiful smiles. Our butlers Elaine and Aylin were phenomenal. They booked our dinner reservations each night and gave us the best recommendations for our trip. We had wonderful chats with them daily and learned so much Cuba through them. They met us each day with smiles and laughter! We couldn’t of asked for anyone better than them! We also met an amazing cleaner Raiza. We arrived late in the evening and struggled to find our way around the first night, we seen and ask Raiza for help getting to the lobby bar and our love for her grew from there! She was so kind and helpful, even with the language barrier she worked so hard to help us understand her and her to understand us. After chatting with her that night we made a point to chat with her every night. We brought her some gifts we had brought with us and on our last evening there she gave us a beautiful gift that we will cherish forever. We made such great friends with her and are hoping to stay in contact for many years to come. She quickly became a great friend and we are already missing her. The Royalton felt like home, the staff on the whole resort with truly wonderful. The pool bartenders were outstanding and the bistro crew couldn’t of been any happier to serve us and chat with us daily! The room was great! We didn’t do any upgrades and we truly didn’t need it! Wifi in our room worked wonderful (2215), AC was great, we had no issues with hot water. Our maid, Sooley (unsure of the spelling) was phenomenal at keeping our room nice and clean and everything stocked up. She made sure each day to find us and thank us for the presents we would leave for her every morning. One thing we wanted to share was the wicker furniture in the rooms. We loved the look but as you can imagine it collects and traps a lot of dust. That was our only “complaint” if you could call it that, we noticed it and moved on! Everything else was too pretty and amazing to worry about it! We are back home today and already planning our next trip back. It’s not every day you get to meet people who leave a last impression on you, but Razia, Elaine, Aylin, Sooley and the rest of the Royalton crew did just that! This was our first time to Cuba and the Royalton but it is just the start of many trips to come.
