This is a beautiful setting not far from beach. Both the guests and the staff are very friendly . I was particularly pleased with the sign in staff person, Jose Reyes, who helped us with outstanding patience and dexterity when our credits cards blocked. John from Quebec

We are staying at this resort right now. It's beautiful and the service and food are both excellent. The staff are all very helpful and friendly. Rooms are dated but everthing is clean.

We liked the hotel and overall had a good experience. Everyone was generally friendly and made our stay a pleasant one. A big shout-out to the spa services at Occidental Papagayo! Silvia and Dana are fantastic! Over the course of our stay we booked multiple couple massages because the experience was so wonderful and relaxing. Spa treatments are easy to book and we highly recommend you do it during your stay!

The resort is lovely, quiet, and you can find pool-side music if desired! There is some walking needed and lots of steps, but it feels good to get your body moving! They have free and fast shuttle service if needed; let's just say I've seen younger adults getting around the same as people in their 70s with a cane just fine. The beach was better than expected; food at the buffet is great and you almost don't need the a-la-carte restaurants (which are also fantastic!). Tons of nearby excursions; we swam in waterfalls, relaxed in hot springs, rejuvenated ourselves in a volcanic mud bath, enjoyed a sunset sail, jaunts through the rain forest and visits to their cocoa and coffee plantations! All were booked easily in the lobby with On The Beach tours - JJ made excellent recommendations for us, and Jose was a great tour guide. In between excursion days, we booked some relaxation and downtime at the spa with 3 separate couples massages/facials/body hydration treatments throughout the week. Silvia and Deborah are amazing and took great care of us when we were there. The prices were very reasonable, and I wish we had time for more! It was easy for us to book the times we wanted our spa treatments and restaurant dinners to align with our excursion schedules. Everyone is extremely friendly; the drinks are great and the bartender service was very fast. We paid for the Premium upgrade which does get you a separate bar area upstairs from the lobby. The girls working there are friendly, have quick service, and make excellent drinks! We took advantage of the free laundry service provided with this upgrade, and they did a great job and had our clothes returned to us the same-day. Transportation to and from the airport was seamless, and clearing security was quicker than expected (unexpectedly, 7 planes arrived at the same time... the room was absolutely packed with travellers but they had all 22 lanes staffed with customs agents and we still got through in about 45 mins). One time, we needed service to our room as our safe was running low on batteries, and the technician was there in 20 minutes. We've met other couples here who say they've come to this resort many times in the past and keep coming back again. I'd say we experienced almost everything we could while we were here, and 100% we will come back as well. I was able to enjoy some private moments with my wife, whether it was walking with our toes in the sand in the mornings, enjoying a cocktail while the Sun set, or those quiet walks to your dinner reservations at night. Pura Vida!

The hotel is beautiful. Most of the staff was great, but some had attitude (scolding us for not understanding when the snack bar opened and being completely unapologetic about the activities schedule being out of date after we showed up for yoga and nobody was there). The Buffett was good but multiple times we had to go find our own water and were not even offered coffee at breakfast. Awesome food and service at the oriental restaurant!
