We had a wonderful stay at Occidental! Great mix of down time on the beach and the 2 pools. Lots of wildlife on the premises and def make use of the daily activities (hikes, kayaking, etc).

The Occidental Papagayo adult hotel is generally a 4 star except for a few glitches with the room cleaning and fridge stock up. Out of 7 days, 2 of them they forgot towels for bathroom and did not sticking the fridge with water. On another occasion they forgot the coffee for the room. One last negative point is the amount of parasols, only have 5 parasols for about 70 loungers. Many stairs and hills. If you have knee problems like me, simply take your time and use the handrails. The hotel itself is great, people working here are generally amicable. The food was good and the Italian, Oriental and grill require reservations, apply early. The food was delicious at these mentioned eateries. One unknown fact is the the grill restaurant near the big pool serves breakfast as well, starting at 0730 hrs.

Just got back from a lovely week of sunshine at Occidental. The resort is lovely, clean & very well maintained. The food was great , always plenty to choose from. Not one hiccup the entire trip. Our only complaint or suggestion would be the need for MANY more umbrellas around the pools, this would significantly increase the guest experience. There simply weren’t enough options to enjoy the outdoors without being in the direct sunlight. We were in building 12 which was approximately a 10 minute walk from the lobby / buffet . The walk although is hilly is doable but at certain times of the day the trolley ( shuttle) was much appreciated in that intense heat. We loved the mature crowd, it was a nice calm vibe. If you’re looking for rest & relaxation it’s a great resort. The staff were friendly and attentive. We would definitely recommend and would love to go back.

Such a fantastic trip! Our rooms were fantastic! We had tours with Frank the Tank, highly recommend! If you need a drink, Oscar at the swim up bar was amazing! His "espcial" was perfect! We wanted for nothing!

Not impressed with this place at all. The staff overall is not friendly or helpful. The availability of food is limited. Every other resort that I have traveled to has had some type of food available 24 hours a day. The restaurants that you have to have a reservation for fill quickly, but when you go they are never full or busy. It seems like they could easily book more reservations for people.
