Great holiday

Flyer68272316214 (Essex, United Kingdom) on Jan 15, 2026

We had a fabulous stay , great value for money The food was mostly outstanding , and we were able to book a different restaurant every night ! The entertainment was the best ! You literally had so much to do and the entertainment team were brilliant, bringing so much energy and positivity. That’s a huge plus to this resort ! The pool area is quite a party area lots of music and fun !! Lots of people enjoying themselves. The team serving around the pool were mostly helpful My only negative . it was a struggle to get a Diet Coke , zero sugar mixer - lots of negative conversations around that ! But all in all once it did not effect my stay My room was clean and cool and was serviced twice a day on my request Great holiday

The most beautiful place… but not as luxurious as you might expect!

Louise B (Wolverhampton, United Kingdom) on Jan 14, 2026

Just got back from a fabulous week at the Ambar, part of the luxury Bahia Principe complex in Punta Cana. Here is an honest review of our experience ( early 40’s professional couples, child-free) with TUI to help you get the most out of your trip! ??FOOD: Book your dinner reservations before you go via the app so you can experience all of the different restaurants across the complex. Service in all the restaurants is excellent. Recommend Yurta, Portofino and Meat for really delicious meals…Limbo was disappointing- bland though beautifully presented. My bf got food poisoning whilst we were there, not sure how- generally everything seems freshly prepared and tasty. ??DRINK: drinks are plentiful and varied, there are beautifully presented welcome drinks in the restaurants but all seem to taste the same. Very sweet and cheap, watered down. It’s no Botanist- or even Wetherspoons!! Both beer and Prosecco had an unpleasant taste too which you don’t expect from a luxury hotel. Top tip- ask for the branded spirits on the second shelf, we finally got a decent g&t with tanqueray/bombay sapphire about half way through when we realised we could do this! ??BEACH and POOL: Absolutely dreamy location- the Ambar is right on a white sandy beach where you can swim in the beautiful ocean, enjoy a massage, chill and people watch all day ?????? Pools are clean and lovely with lots of activities going on and swim up bars. ??PEOPLE: Ambar is described as ultra luxury, but in all honesty, it appeared to be full of chavs with money, eating and drinking to excess- making it not much different to Benidorm at times. Lots of American tourists too. The real Dominican people make it- all of the staff, beach workers are super friendly and lovely, always happy to help and call you “family” which is really cute. I had the BEST massage with Alexia on the beach- definitely recommend and it was only about £40. ??WEATHER: Lovely heat- scorchio for sun worshippers by the pool but warm breeze on the beach, sea is warm and easy to swim in as sandy and fairly shallow. When it rains it soon blows over so don’t worry if there’s a downpour when you’re there. Take lots of mozzie protection- more is more! I did wristbands, DEET spray and mozzipatches at night and had no bites, but my friends got badly bitten despite using one of the above. ??CULTURE: Dominican Republic is a beautiful country - we did trips to stunning Saona island and a buggy drive through the countryside at dusk with a swim party in a natural cave/lagoon! Amazing experiences- all arranged via TUI with wonderful local guides, so felt organised and safe. However- be prepared to see the real country outside of the complex- it’s very poor and I did feel like there was an undercurrent of danger/crime. I also felt a lot of guilt/white privilege returning to the gated luxurious resort, which then felt a little synthetic, a million miles away from real life culture which we like to experience and explore on holiday. All in all, a fab week away to escape the January blues… wish we had stayed longer, 7 nights is not really enough. Enjoy your stay ??
