Family Resort

Brodie M (Regina, Canada) on Jan 09, 2026

A very big and super great resort! The buffet was alright mostly if you like seafood but the restaurants on site are definitely superior. Tons and tons of options to eat at as there’s like 30 restaurants and bars on site. My two boys very much enjoyed the kids club and loved the teachers Chabelys, Claudia, and Mary. They were very hands on and made the kids club tons of fun for the kids. The first day my boys got to make flowers out of leaves and the next day they got to make bread in the buffet. We were in love with the beach, the water was beautiful! Some downsides were people smoking wherever they please (including in the resort, and also outdoor restaurants ). And then the language barrier was a little difficult.

Was not worth it whatsoever. Highly not recommend

Our stay at Meliá International Varadero, Level Adults Only, was extremely disappointing and fell far below any reasonable expectations for a hotel of this category. While the resort presents itself as a luxury experience, the reality was quite the opposite. The only positive aspect of our stay was the ocean view, which truly is beautiful. Unfortunately, this was the one and only highlight, and it was not enough to compensate for everything else that went wrong. The room itself was uncomfortable due to a chaotically functioning air-conditioning system. The temperature was either uncontrollably cold or inconsistent, to the point where we had to sleep in our clothes with the window open just to feel somewhat comfortable. This is unacceptable for a so-called premium Level experience. The food was terrible. Juices were made from spoiled or unripe fruit, with pineapples that were hard, sour, and clearly not ready to be served. If the quality of ingredients is this poor, it would honestly be better not to offer them at all. Even the tea did not resemble tea in taste or appearance. Service in the restaurants was painfully slow, requests were forgotten, and dirty cutlery and glasses were regularly brought to the table. Some staff members simply dropped the cutlery onto the table carelessly. Tables were never wiped down, forcing us to clean them ourselves. Photos are attached. All à la carte restaurants were a disappointment, one worse than the other. Even the Japanese restaurant with a show had a dirty grill, which was unpleasant to watch and made us question basic hygiene standards. The overall condition of the facilities was equally poor. Beach towels were old, worn out, and full of loose threads. The gym was outdated, dirty, and smelled bad. There was only one exercise mat, which looked as if it had been chewed apart. The tennis area smelled of garbage, and for the entire hotel there were only two old tennis rackets and a single tennis ball available. The basketball equipment seemed to be completely missing. The level of service was especially frustrating. Most of the staff appeared indifferent and disengaged, with little interest in making guests feel comfortable or assisted. Even the employee assigned to open the door at the Level Adults Only entrance barely did so a couple of times during our entire stay, spending most of the time watching videos on his phone right next to the entrance, clearly uninterested in the guests. To make matters worse, during the middle of the day, staff decided to paint trash bins and wooden boards on the beach with white paint. The strong smell of paint spread across the area, disrupting guests’ peace and relaxation yet again. This kind of illogical decision-making is hard to understand in a resort that claims to offer a high-end experience. Overall, the Level Adults Only experience at Meliá International Varadero does not justify its price, reputation, or marketing claims. Aside from the ocean view, the stay was marked by poor food quality, lack of cleanliness, outdated facilities, and a general absence of care or professionalism. This was not a relaxing vacation, and it is certainly not a place we would choose to return to.
