Great time !

Angelica A (Toronto, Canada) on Jul 20, 2024

We just came back from a family trip with my two children. 1. Room the level - very clean, cleaned every day. No bugs. Amazing view. Came to restock fridge with drinks daily but we only wanted water so not needed. Room was spacious and if we closed the third bed it would be even more spacious. Towels for the rooms replaced daily. Bathroom huge with showers. 2. Staff : very nice. Not asking tips but appreciated them and were easy to talk to. They had a quality I want to say that I have not seen in other resorts. I do not know if that makes sense. wonderful to the girls. 3. Pools : Impressive !!! Huge !!! 3 big pools that created a river. Looked very clean. You never know though. Girls loved them. They had shaded areas and chairs all around. Pool towels were replaced. You had to bring your old towel to get a new one. Some people did not like that. We were ok with it. Some days they ran out and we had to go ask again later too. They had activities in the pool daily. Quiz, games, songs, dancing , aerobics. We didn’t necessarily join but it was fun to watch. Since the pools are huge it did not bother others who did not want to partake. There was a bar in the pool for drinks and there were bars all around. I have to tell you that I did not drink much bc I was with my girls so my reviews on drinks will not be accurate. I am also not a drinker so I would not know of the quality of the drinks. My girls had virgin drinks every 5 min and everyone was happy to make them. Some days they would tell us we are out of pins colada for ex and they would suggest another drink. There were lifeguards on duty but the pools were shallow. I loved that bc when I would go find a shade I was not afraid for the girls. 4. Property: Very well kept ! Very clean! Beautiful! Huge! Palm trees and green everywhere. People were always cleaning, painting, replacing, mowing all the time. There were lizards and some cats that kids loved to watch. And birds. Some times annoying. There were white shacks on the way to the beach that were bars. Very serene and beautiful. I imagined sitting there with a book. Even though it is huge it is in a horseshoe shape and it is easy to get around. Even I did not find the distances big. 5. Is great for young families too. The kids club, the park, the splash pad, the snack place, the ice cream parlor were all placed conveniently together and there were ramps everywhere. My girls did not go. They said they are too old for this ?? 6. Beach…. I am in love. Crystal clean turquoise waters. White sand in and out. They had a separate part for level. We always had beds and umbrellas and if not smb would come and put one. There was service for drinks. But again we only needed water as we were always inside. Shallow at first and gradually deeper. There was a lifeguard. They had activities as well: volley ball, aqua aerobics and so on. We did not participate. Beach will be my happy place from now on. Next time I will have to wear a shirt at the beach. The heat is too dangerous. I am red like a lobster ?? 7. Food : We were never hungry. On arrival at night they sent a snack to the room for us. And they arranged the restaurants for the week on arrival. No having to find anyone and tip to get in. There were a few restaurants, two - three buffets. And some level only places. The food was repetitive and not amazing. Not bad but just ok. There was plenty of whatever they had that day. I would eat sunnny side up eggs, bread, bacon or chorizo, something like Nutella, pudding or yogurt and fruit. My girls had eggs and omelette and fruit and mini croissants. A lot went with trial and error. For ex the cereal tasted weird. The mango was amazing the rest so and so. The level breakfast was a bit better. Cappuccino was great. They also went out of their way to make a Freddo for me. 8. Mexican restaurant, criollo and sasa the tepaniayaki were better. 9. The rest served almost the same food : white fish, pork, beef stew. My little one would ask for pasta and would eat that. It was not the highlight of the trip. They had snack bars that served pizza, sandwiches, hot dogs for the day with some fries. That is what they would have for lunch. Cola drinks and sprite. The buffets were also open. We only sat down once for lunch at the level restaurant that was outside and overlooked the pools bc the girls always wanted to play in the water and did not want to spend time eating. They loved the ice cream place. I found only some flavours good. If someone is super picky and cares a lot about the food they maybe should not go I guess. If you go prepared that you will not be hungry but you will not be amazed then it is ok. Birthday celebration was at a restaurant attached to the hotel called sensum. It was a bit sad. Three small small balloons and a sign that said congratulations. I guess they share the decorations all around. They tried their best and for cake they brought her a huge brownie. My daughter was happy. I disliked this restaurant though and would not recommend. At lunch they also had barbecue stalls. I went to see but they seemed too exposed to flies so I decided against it. 10. Entertainment. Many will not agree with me but I loved it. Again different quality. Singers singing songs with beautiful voices. Violin in the afternoon. Latin dances, 70’s retro party, aqua ballet, magic show, fashion show. It was located next to the pools. They would put chairs out. You did not always have great visibility but it was great! No Michael Jackson impressions for the thousand time! Thank God! I appreciate that they tried smt different. There was a disco on the 10th floor but I never went. I loved the level bar on the 2nd floor. Beautiful area, inside and out with nice drinks. 11. Bugs : some mosquitoes, not too many. Flies and I did see two small cockroaches during our stay. One in the sensum restaurant outside the hotel and one in a public bathroom on the first floor. That was not great. I told them. 12. Service : they were helpful all around. From the bell man to the restaurants and the cleaning. From the reception to the barman’s. They mostly spoke English and if they didn’t they would get smb who knew to talk with you. The air canada representative was nice. He gaves us good suggestions for trips but did not take any bc I was alone with the girls. We only did varadero and the market. Very clean everywhere and very safe. 13. Others experiences: people that did not have level accommodations complained more. About food quality and some about stomach problems. They had to leave early bc of that. They went to the doctor onsite who was very helpful. Also a parent with kids with allergies was not always certain of what was in the food. 14. We all had stomach issues for a day. Not always the same day. But nothing that ruined our day. We did not have to be in the bathroom all day or anything. We were unwell for the day it hit us. I am not sure what to blame for this. It could be a combination of things, food, heatstroke. 15. In all: we had a great time. Our days were spent in the water. We are happy we went. If a friend was going, I would for sure recommend the Level and would warn her about the food. There were no shortages of anything else. Toilet paper, soap etc was always replenished. Cannot wait to go again !

I loved it

I am a member of Melia rewards program and for the last 2 years I am choosing Melia hotels whatever I am going ( New York, Dominican Republic, Cuba) I like my stay in Melia international Varadero. I had a Level service. I had a room with a balcony on a 9th floor. Everything was working in a room, very clean, bed and towels was changed everyday. I loved the breakfast options! I don’t know why people complaining, you can have eggs Benedict, lox, jamon, yogurts, cereal and much more! I never see a cucarachas in a Level restaurants or in my room! I was only disappointed with a butler service… I saw my butler only once when I move in my room and he disappeared for the rest of my vacation. But the icing on the cake it’s people who is working at the Level bar on a beach! I want to say special thank you to every single person to Pedro, Andy, Liam, Tommy! To the chef who cooked a delicious lunch! Guys you made my stay unforgettable! Thank you very much! I would recommend to choose Melia International Varadero! P.S. beach is beautiful!

Excellent service with smiles from all the staff. We had a special birthday celebration with the help from Leo our promoter who took care of everything for us and it turned out perfect. Leo went over and beyond to set it up. Thank you to all the staff

Mixed feelings

saashees on Jul 17, 2024

Whilst people rave about the lure of Cuba, i cannot understand the appeal. My review is going to be long because it's a most anxiety filled experience I've had.. The drive to the hotel is scary. You will have no phone service reception even with a local sim card and offline maps don't work properly. My husband asked the locals many times and they were kind enough to help because there are no signs for the hotels.. This hotel is 3 star at most. Check in is a hassle. Ensure you have proper ID for everyone because they almost wanted to refuse a passport id for my husband. Whilst the front desk staff are stand offish, the manager handled our issues professionally. None of my credit cards worked to check in and I have CARIBBEAN based credit cards (nothing US works and i know this) my banks assured me it would work. It didn't and the staff tried to tell me I didn't have enough money on my card :/ TIP - Have sufficient cash on hand; we had to purchase a prepaid debit card to then pay. The facilities are nice enough. It is comparatively newer and comfortable. The ground staff are pleasant. Food is sub par and repetitive. There are flies and mosquitoes in the dining area and surroundings. TIP - carry insect repellent because dengue is rampant in the Caribbean. The beach is ok for me. Had waves because they said that is common for this time of the year. Pool is nice and good height for everyone to enjoy. The pool bars are NOT 24/7. They close and finish once the drinks are finished there. Overall it is a nice hotel comfortable but not memorable. They try to make it accomoating given the limited resources.
