Upgrade overview

  • Upgrade offers are available only on select WestJet-operated flights, up to 75 hours before departure.
  • Not available on Ultrabasic fares, codeshare flights, other airlines’ tickets, or for unaccompanied minors.
  • Each flight segment is considered separately; you can choose which one to upgrade.
  • Infants under two without a seat are eligible; if an infant turns two during travel, they must be booked as a child for the full trip.
  • Select the flight segment(s) you want to upgrade and use the slider to set your offer (amount includes taxes and fees).
  • Enter your contact details and payment method. Payment is processed only if your offer is accepted.
  • You will receive an email confirmation after submitting. Offers can be modified or cancelled up to 75 hours before departure.
  • Offers apply per guest and all guests on the booking must upgrade. Separate reservations are required if only some travellers want to upgrade.
  • Seat selection in the upgraded cabin happens at check-in (adjacent seating not guaranteed).
  • Upgrade acceptance depends on factors like availability, number of offers received, and offer amount; submit the highest amount you’re comfortable paying.
  • Making an offer is free; payment is processed only if your offer is accepted.
  • Each flight has a minimum and maximum offer amount; your offer must fall within this range.
  • Offers close 75 hours before departure; you can revise or cancel up until then.
  • Different amounts can be submitted for each flight segment.
  • Accepted payment methods: Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover/Diners, or WestJet points.
    • Credit card payments count toward Rewards qualifying spend.
    • Point redemptions do not earn qualifying spend or points.
View WestJet Rewards terms and conditions.
    • Gift cards and Travel Bank cannot be used.
    • Ensure your card/points remain valid and have sufficient funds until departure.
  • Payment is processed 72 hours before departure if your upgrade is accepted.
  • Only one form of payment is allowed per upgrade (cannot be split between multiple cards).
  • Platinum and Gold Rewards members continue to have priority access to paid upgrades closer to departure.
  • Changing or cancelling an offer (before its accepted)
    • You can change or cancel your offer anytime up to 75 hours before departure, as long as it hasn’t been accepted.
    • Use the “Modify/Cancel” link in your confirmation email or to My Trips in the WestJet app.
    • If you need to change your payment type, you’ll need to cancel your offer and submit a new one.
    • Upgrade offers are non-transferable. If you change flights, you must cancel and submit a new offer for your new flight.
    • Offer status: You’ll get a confirmation email when your request is received. Check your status via the “Modify/Cancel” button. Offers may be accepted any time prior to your flight; if not, status will be provided 72 hours before departure. Unsuccessful offers cannot be explained or resubmitted for the same flight.

  • After your upgrade is accepted
    • Successful upgrades are non-refundable and non-transferable.
    • You’ll be able to choose your upgraded seat at check-in (online, kiosk, or with an agent).
    • Baggage allowance: Premium upgrades follow your original fare rules; Business upgrades include two checked bags.
    • Original fare rules still apply to your booking (e.g., changes, cancellations).
    • If your flight is rescheduled, WestJet will try to accommodate your upgrade. If that’s not possible, you’ll receive a full refund.
    • If your flight is cancelled and you choose not to rebook, you’ll be refunded once you complete the refund form.
    • If you miss your flight, your upgrade is forfeited and non-refundable.
