Employees and sunshine go hand-in-hand! :)

Breatheeasyreviews on Apr 06, 2024

This well deserved review is long overdue. I HUGE shoutout to the employees that made our stay memorable with laughs, hugs, friendliness, excellent customer service and kindness when it came to accommodating Celiac. Natasha, La-Donna, Jodionn and the cooks at the Tapas restaurant were incredible - they were the reason we went back there daily, not only for the food but for the smiles and kindness! KeMarley, Aquila for the fun nightlife and laughs at the Polo Lounge, Brittany & Joel for the great conversations and awesome Connect Four skills, Donald at the pool bar near the watersports for his calm demeanor and good stories and Dwayne in water sports is the best to go sailing with and have a good time! When it came to the memorable Epic photos, do them! Alex, keel, Davie, Ricardo, Renaldo and Camille are fabulous!!! Jamaica is one of our favorite places because of the people, culture, warmth and beauty - not for the "fanciness" and all the Americanized amenities. Keep it real and pure! Some of the other restaurants were not very friendly and didn't seem to want to accommodate food allergies and Celiac. Keep these AMAZING employees happy and treat them well, they are diamonds in the rough these days!!! If they are happy and shine from the soul, the customers will feel it and know it. Thank you for a great stay! We miss all those names that are listed and we do hope they receive recognition for their pure awesomeness!!!

A great time at Sandals Ochi

Brad U on Apr 06, 2024

This was our third week-long trip to Sandals Ochi so we are familiar with the layout and we like the spread-out feel. We stayed beach-side as before, in a Club room, so we had a terrific view of the ocean. We liked our Riviera "east end" room as we didn't have the bar/patio below us. The room is the right size and very clean but well worn and the drawers in the chest did not close easily. We know rooms are being renovated, so we hope it happens quickly so we will benefit on our next trip. We enjoyed the food at all the restaurants though the service at Sky/Vista was spotty (we waited a long time for coffee refills at breakfast - the servers don't seem to be tuned in to keeping coffee carafes full on the tables, especially when one carafe only provides about one refill for each of the four of us.) It is worth pointing out that the service at the Bella Napoli was surprisingly unfriendly - we ordered from there twice thinking the second time would be better but it was not. Also, how can it be that we were told "about 20 minutes" and then 40+ minutes later when we went to check, be told again (in a decidedly unfriendly tone) it'll be "about 20 minutes." Especially when they were not that busy. Maybe the people there are annoyed at having to work near a hot oven, and they certainly let it rub off on their attitudes. Similar to another reviewer, we experienced some weak drinks at the bars - seemed spotty and depended on the bartender... as most were great - especially the signature cocktails at dinners. In past years there were people periodically passing by at the beach to take drink orders and collect empty glasses, but not the case now - maybe a product of cost-cutting. It didn't hurt for us to get our own drinks but a "nice touch" service seemed missing and while we returned our glassware, not everyone did and they accumulated and were quite obvious at the end of the day. We had no problem getting chairs at the beach (staked them out at 8 am daily) with interludes at the pool a couple days. The dock closure was disappointing as was the sea weed overgrowth in the contained area inside the dock, so we stayed further over away from the dock towards the beach activity area. On a final note: The spa service was great - hat's off to Kedene (spelling?)! And the steel drum group was amazing / talented - they certainly played their hearts out. Despite some "small issues that can be improved," we really enjoyed our time at and the Jamaican hospitality.

Never do Sandals in Ocho rio Waste of time and money

Marvin L (New York City, New York) on Apr 02, 2024

The ground transportation was long 90 min. They don’t tell you this everyone never gives you a straight answer. You get these answers ( not far man”. It’s a quick run , we almost there. Yet you a hour away after a hour drive I book with JetBlue travel. ( never doing that again) I asked for an ocean view instead I received a view of jungle. In the 4 floor old room bed was creepy. I’m 5’10 I had to jump in the bed Bathroom was old Toilet seat was 4 inch from the floor so bed is high toilet low The safe was not directly in from it was to the side. So you never see what your combination is I spoke with the front desk upon my arrival of trying to get an upgrade. The man at the front desk informed me that me he would call guest services to see if there are any availability and told me to have a seat I informed him I had try to call but never could get someone to Assit me. He say no worries After 10 min. Of me waiting he summons me to the front desk. He says I have good news for you. I just got off the phone with guest relationships. They tell me that they cannot help me there’s no availabilities. I looked at this man lucky at three heads I proceed to my room which is on the fourth floor facing the jungle. There’s only one ice machine was on the first floor. I figure of a see a management in the morning the next morning I called Jetblue travels, and I also saw to the management they said they’ll get back to me I guess suggested I take a shuttle to the Sam club, which is up the hill on the same resort I did it was like day and night I walked up to the front desk and told him about my situation they call the sandals that was down the hill of the same resort and told him I wanted to stay at this sandals up the hill. The rooms were so much better the person took care of that her name was Lucky. I felt lucky to meet this woman no one has sent those took care of me the way she did. She made the balance of my trip more pleasant I still would never go to Sandals I would suggest everybody don’t believe the pictures you see on the website the sandals and oral beach is not on the website everybody’s polite. The food is good, but is not what it is hyped up to be.

Amazing Vacation

John D (Harrison, New York) on Apr 02, 2024

So we just returned on Saturday from a 6 night stay and let me say that we had an amazing time. After we booked we read many negative reviews and as far as I can tell you not one of those reviews were correct. The resort is really nice and very easy to navigate. We had no problems getting loungers on the beach or at the pools. Towels were plentiful all the staff were very friendly and very professional. All our meals were amazing and making reservations for the restaurants that required them were not an issue at all. The drinks were all made great. We had a luxury level room this time as it was a last minute trip. We usually do club level and have never done butler. Our room was 3109 on the first floor. We overlooked the gardens. The bed was super comfy and the pillows were great. The room was modern and housekeeping did an amazing job every day. We were located on the beach side. We visited the hillside part of the resort which is directly across the street and a 2 minute ride on the Hop which comes every 10 minutes. Definitely you have to check out the Rabbit Hole it's a great time. Entertainment was really good and the saxophonist was amazing. Make sure not to miss him. All in all it was another amazing time. The only things that could use improvement are they need to have more umbrellas at the beach for people who really can't handle the sun for hours at a time. Other than that there are no negative things I can say about Sandals Ochi.

Death by a thousand cuts

TyBevs (Memphis, Tennessee) on Apr 01, 2024

It was an okay trip just average. Just a lot of small things over and over and over. Started off with stop and Dunn's River to drop off guest and they got singing and hot towels and when we showed up we got proceed to the front desk and then have a seat we'll be with you. One of Butlers was great she keep the fridge full of the NA beer I requested so it was cold while the other one proceed to show up with it to be like here I brought your beer but great buddy it's warm if you would have put it in the fridge when I asked for it while we were gone for the day I could of had cold beer before we went to dinner. Dinner was okay but they kept giving us a table with a light out so it was hard to see the menu. The 10 servers we had for lunches and dinners we had 2 that seemed like they didn't want to be there and one was in the French restaurant. We were always able to get chairs and the beech or the pool so that was good but the specialty drinks my wife said were watered down. The resort feels big because it is broken up into 2 sections hillside and beech side and you have to take a little bus which we never had to wait to long for. The food was average to good but not great. One of our deserts at the French rest. was still frozen. We went in with and open mind and not knowing what to expect. Did we need a butler probably not but they were helpful.. Will we go back to Ochi probably not on the next trip but we will give Sandals another shot but we know there are other options out there too.
