LGBTQ Couples' Experience at Melia Puerto Vallarta in June 2024

Matthew C on Jun 14, 2024

Back home after a week spent at Melia Puerto Vallarta. Truthfully, we would have been happy to come home by day 4. Sadly, this was not a resort for us. It was off-season for Canadian & American travelers. While the resort itself was decently busy, it was tough to meet other North American travelers. Puerto Vallarta, as a city, has a lot to offer. We are first time travelers to PV and discovered a lot of terrific restaurants, culture and sights off the resort. I would caution folks to really research Puerto Vallarta ahead of time and decide what kind of traveler you are and what you are looking for. The resort itself is in major need of a facelift. A lot of the accommodations are extremely dated. The one saving grace for us at this resort was that the service staff really was incredible. I felt all of them went out of their way to be polite and attentive. Would not stay at this resort again. But I also realize that PV is not exactly an "all-inclusive" destination. If you are an LGBT traveler, I strongly recommend avoiding any resorts close to the airport. If you really want to enjoy your vacation, stay in or around Zona Romantica. We were there just about every day.

Not great

We stayed at a Melia property in the Dominican Republic that was one of the best we've ever experienced. We booked this hotel in PV based on our prior experience but it didn't match up. The hotel seems dated and you just feel they're understaffed in just about every area of the resort leading to long lines almost every where. We had mold in our shower, the door jam with the security lock was pried away from the wall. We did call maintenance and they attended to this quickly, though. The pool area is gross and in disrepair - my wife cut her toe open on a broken ledge that ended our time in the sun. The bathroom at the pool was disgusting with feces all over. Overall just not a pleasant experience. The only saving grace is the location. It's across the street from the Marina area that has a ton of bars and restaurants. If I went back to this area, I'd find a more reputable hotel in the same area but would not book with Melia Puerto Vallarta.

Extremely disappointed with this place. I booked 6 rooms for a family trip and not one person liked this place. I feel so bad for everyone who was there. I would end up writing a book if I listed all the issues. All I can say is DO NOT STAY AT THIS PLACE!!!

Do not recommend

Horrible! We hosted our wedding at a Melia last year and wanted to try a new destination for our one year anniversary. We stayed one night and transferred to another hotel. Rooms are extremely old, basic, hard bed, and dirty sheets. Ocean view suite meant a view of the roof of the building in front. We had two bathrooms and both showers did not have hot water and the tub filled with water within seconds. We tried the breakfast and it was okay. Server was very nice. The lunch buffet was horrible. There were no available dinner reservations any of the nights we were there so only buffet as the food option. The pool area doesn’t have servers only one bar with a long line and one snack area where the food is sitting out. The pool area was dirty and there were no available chairs. Based on reading the other reviews and our past hotel experience we were expecting a much better hotel.

Great stay

Loved our time at Meliá. Travelled with my Mother and 2 kids (5 &8) Kids club was amazing. Both my kids really enjoyed Nighttime shows were really good We mainly ate at the buffet, I give it 5/5 for breakfast and 4/5 for supper Service was really good My only 2 suggestions, a lot of the activities and announcements were in Spanish only, would appreciate if they were in English also Second, it would be nice to have a drink menu. The bar would not have what I usually drink (ie. Ran out of mint, no mojitos, no banana so no dirty monkey) But the margaritas were delicious Overall, we really enjoyed our stay and would come here again
