Deteriorated & infiltrated by timeshare scammers

elzny (Westport, Massachusetts) on Jun 15, 2024

We were here 3 years ago, and what a dream vacay that was. We’ve been thinking about coming back ever since. Finally we came back - the same airy, grand lobby, the same vibrant scene: the beach, pool, food, room…. Albeit showing some wear n tear, which is understandable. Also the buffet is no long full self-serving - you’ll need to ask the staff member behind the counter - which is fine cause this will help reducing food waste - better for the environment. Also the toiletries got severely watered down - from stand alone sample size bottles to wall-mount refillable ones - and they refill it with really cheap stuff. Even my 11 yo told me, “mommy this hair conditioner does nothing at all. Totally ineffective“ So if you plan to swim everyday, bring your own conditioner. I’m glad I did. Then a weird card slipped under our door one evening - it says “The Playa Collection” and $500 gift blah blah. (pix attached) I forgot about it for a couple of days n then one day I stopped by the desk and asked about it. The staff behind the counter looked too eager and asked a lot of personal information that’s imo totally none of his business. He also said in exchange with 2 free 30-min massages or $200 to the excursions, the next morning I’ll come to see him n then someone will join us for breakfast for 1/2 hour to tell us how to book our vacation. What…? This is totally creepy. He also called his supervisor who was totally rude and unprofessional. I was sitting in front the desk and 2 of them towering over me trying to coerce me into agreeing to what they r saying. WT…?! By this time I knew this is a timeshare scam. I’ve been so relaxed and enjoying this vacation - until now. What a shame. My beloved Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana, got infiltrated by these cockroaches!! I immediately googled “the Playa Collection scam”. Sure enough, tons of stuff popped up. In other islands, under other hotel brands - they r everywhere. Having worked in commercial real estate investments all my life, I sure know a thing or 2 about the hospitality sector. As I suspected, this deal happened at corporate level. If you go to the playa collections website, at the bottom, the fine print reads: ©…Teatree International, LLC independently owns and operates The Playa Collection™ membership program. It uses The Playa Collection™ trademark under license from Playa Resorts Management, LLC and other marks through third-party sublicenses... So there you have it. Hyatt Ziva can’t kick them out. Cause their corporate did a licensing deal w these cockroaches. Also the excursion crap, I couldn’t help laughing. There’s no excursion that’s under $100. In a country of average monthly income of $1200. Maybe they thought they r in Hawaii? I understand it’s tourism economy but why would I come all the way to this beautiful resort and then NOT stay here every minute but pay extra to some skeptical overpriced excursion? LOL Oh well. I guess this is the end for us here. But there are no shortage of newly built resorts in the Caribbean’s. For this trip, I will erase these unpleasant memories and keep only the good ones. Adiós Hyatt Ziva Cap Cana. We will NOT be back.

Fun, relaxing stay with wonderful staff

Alex M on Jun 14, 2024

The resort, pool, and beach were all beautiful. The water park was fun with several very fun water slides. The family loved the sail boating and kayaking. The nightly shows / events were a fun time too. The staff was amazing. They were so friendly, helpful, and always smiling! Elvin is one of the entertainment coordinators, and he was amazing - always said hi when he saw us, and he was always offering ways to have fun. There is so much food and drinks available, with so many cuisines to choose from across Ziva and Zilara. The food wasn’t the favorite part of our stay, but it was fine.

Surprised!!!!!!

Kris P (Minneapolis, Minnesota) on Jun 14, 2024

As someone who frequents all-inclusive resorts twice a year, I was pleasantly surprised by my experience at the resort for several reasons. 1. The buffet was exceptional. Top tier 2. The resort is large. But not too large like other resorts where the walks to different restaurants and places is very far. Either the resort isn’t as large or just properly spaced out. 3. The service is amazing. The rooms are cleaned wonderfully and every single staff member is kind and helpful! You can tell they choose the most experienced people. 4. You don’t have to wear stupid bands on your wrists throughout your stay! Which I loved!!!! 5. Check in was seamless. You were seated and immediately addressed by someone. Not use to that at all inclusives. 6. Cab ride to and from the airport was only 30 usd. 7. Despite hating sand, the beach was gorgeous and sand was clean. 8. The water park rides were so fun even as adults!!! I could go on and on! Highly recommend. I will be back!
