This was our first time in 16 years to visit Grand Palladium Kantenah. My son and I decided to come back because Bahia Principe Akumal did away with many of their shade structures. We liked how Kantenah had plenty of thatched palapas around the pool. We were happy we chose the Kantenah section. The White Sands section was not pretty at all. The weather was great for our entire stay. About 72 degrees during the day with white puffy clouds in the sky. 72 degrees sound a bit chilly, but we wouldn't have wanted it to be warmer or cooler. It was perfect. The pool temperature was great too. The sea breeze was delightful. Our room was modern and clean. The mattresses were great and we could order a custom pillow. It was quite a long walk to the pool. It is easy to get lost for the first few days because the resort is huge. The Kantenah section is absolutely gorgeous with koi ponds, jungle paths, and beautifully maintained grounds. It was fun watching iguanas, coati and cavis. We didn't spend much time at the beach, but it was beautiful and well maintained. There was an area where people were swimming and jumping in the waves. The free form shaped pool was gigantic and rimmed with palm trees. The only problem was the pool for 5'3" deep almost everywhere. I'm 5'6" tall and could not touch the bottom in much of the pool even at the swim up bar. Be sure children have some kind of flotation device to wear and watch them closely. We were very happy we planned ahead and brought our own inflatable raft. The only reason we might not return is the food. The buffet was fine. We enjoyed custom omelets at breakfast. My problem was the a la carte restaurants. It was difficult to book reservations on line. We always ended up having to go to the concierge desk and wait in line at 8:00 AM. If you don't go early you won't get a reservation. You can only book 2 days ahead. The presentation of the food was lovely, however the food was bland and tasteless, and the meat tough. I had a choice of octopus soup or avocado soup with a side of grasshoppers at the Mexican a la carte restaurant. We have much better restaurants in the U.S. In conclusion: We think we will look for a place with better food for our next trip even though the service at Kantenah was great, the rooms were comfortable, and the beach, pool and grounds were lovely. We do intend to find a resort in the Riviera Maya area because the resorts are so spread out with gorgeous beaches.

Poor service at the bars, food could be cold, not a big variety. A la cartes were great. Sports bar wonderful. Rooms and resort very clean. Beds okay. Staff in the sports for kids are wonderful. Pools great. Swim up bar slow, even if there was not very many people there.
terrible management, would never stay in Grand Palladium resort

front desk pushing for room upgrade; impossible to make dinner reservations for la carte dining using the Grand Palladium app, the only way to get reservations is to go to the concierge desk early morning. We both got sick during our stay, contacted hotel front desk for early checkout asking for possible refund but was told to contact reservation in Spain by email only (no phone number to call), wrote email but never got response, the travel agency that made the booking also contacted their reservation by phone and email, only got email response 2 days later denying any possible refund
