Passenger requirement for proof of vaccination QR Code

As of November 30, 2021, the final phase of Canada’s mandatory vaccination policy for travellers coming into effect. In compliance with Transport Canada regulations, all guests over 12 years and four months of age who are travelling out of a Canadian airport are required to provide proof of vaccination.  

If your QR Code is from a country we do not currently accept, please present it to an agent at the airport to have it validated.

 

How to prepare for check in

Many provinces provide a PDF, which our system does not accept. You can save your QR Code as an image by exporting it or taking a screenshot

Take a screenshot of your original federally issued QR Code (not from your apple wallet)

For all flights booked directly through WestJet, including UltraBasic, the following options are available:

 

Changes:

  • A $0 one-time fee waiver will be offered.

  • If you change your destination, the difference in fare applies. Any residual funds are refunded. 

  • If you change to a different cabin, the difference in fare applies. Any residual funds are refunded.  

  • Travel must be completed within 60 days of the original departure date.

  • Change requests must be made more than 2 hours before departure.

Cancellations:

  • A $0 one-time fee waiver will be offered.  

  • If you cancel your booking, the funds will be refunded or credited based on the fare class booked; Basic fares will receive a Travel Bank credit - valid for 12 months. 

  • If you cancel your booking, any portion paid with WestJet points, Travel Bank credit, or a WestJet Rewards companion voucher will be returned to your account, and the original expiration date (if applicable) will apply. 

  • If you cancel your booking, any portion paid with WestJet points, or a WestJet Rewards companion voucher that has expired or is expiring within 60 days will be reinstated with a new expiry date 60 days from the date of reinstatement. 

  • Any portion paid with WestJet points or Travel Bank credit will be returned to your account, and the original expiration date (if applicable) will apply.  

  • Cancellation requests must be made more than 2 hours before departure. 

Third-party bookings:

  • If you booked through a travel agent or another website, please contact your original booking source.

For all WestJet Vacations bookings, valid on all fare packages with flights that have not been delayed or cancelled, the following options are available:

 

  • A $0 one-time fee waiver will be offered for changes or cancellations. 

  • If you change your booking, the difference in package price and a $200 penalty per person applies, and is subject to availability. 

  • If you cancel your booking, the amount paid will be placed into a WestJet Vacations Future Travel Credit, valid for two years. Note: a $200 hotel penalty per person will be deducted from the total. 

  • If you booked through a travel agent or through another booking agency, please contact them directly.

Due to current government staffing shortages, travelers may experience longer-than-usual wait times at airport security and processing areas. Passengers are strongly recommended to arrive at least four (4) hours prior to their scheduled departure time to allow sufficient time for check-in, security screening and customs processing times.

WestJet is responding to the developing situation in Cuba. Aligning with our focus to put guests and crew first and protect the integrity of our operation, the WestJet Group has made the difficult decision to begin an orderly wind down of our operations to Cuba.

 

For all flights booked directly through WestJet, including UltraBasic, the following options are available:

Changes:

  • You may change to an alternate destination, without penalty. The difference in fare will apply, any residual funds will be refunded. 
  • If you change to a different cabin, the difference in fare will apply. Any residual funds will be refunded.  
  • Travel must be completed within 60 days of the original departure date.

 

Cancellations:

  • Your flight will be cancelled automatically, and you will receive a refund to your original form of payment. You will receive a notification with additional information detailing how to initiate your refund.

For all WestJet Vacations bookings:

WestJet Vacations will now be processing an automatic refund to our guests with bookings to Cuba between February 17 and April 25, 2026. The refund will be to the original form of payment and if purchased, will include a refund for Travel Protection Plan, seat selection and baggage fees. If a WestJet Vacations future travel credit was used as a form of payment on the booking, the voucher will be reinstated with a 1 year expiry. Please allow up to 21 business days for the refund to be processed. No further action is required.
