A nice hotel in a trendy, vibrant location, with Soundproofing issues during the Weekends

Metterra Hotel on Whyte is a nice hotel in a trendy, vibrant location. We appreciated the included breakfast and valet parking. The breakfast was quite good—fresh coffee, fruit salad, a few baked goods, toast, bagels, scrambled eggs, bacon, potatoes, sausages, and oatmeal. The breakfast room was pleasant and comfortable. Our only complaint was the croissants, which were so stale they were basically croutons. The staff were all very helpful and welcoming. The bed was comfortable, and the room was adequately clean, though a few details could have used more attention (e.g., the wall around the light switches and the bedside charging block). Our biggest issue was the noise at night. We weren’t aware that on weekends, Whyte Avenue turns into what feels like a racetrack. Modified Japanese cars, muscle cars, and trucks rev their engines while stopped at the nearby traffic lights. This “Cruise Culture” seems to be a regular weekend event, with drivers looping the avenue to show off their vehicles. Unfortunately, the hotel’s windows aren’t well soundproofed, and even with earplugs and a pillow over my head, it felt like we were right next to the action. Overall, I’d recommend this hotel for a weekday stay. If you’re a light sleeper planning a weekend visit, consider requesting a room facing away from Whyte Avenue—or staying elsewhere.

great location Whyte Avenue with its restaurants and shops; quiet location, especially at the back of the hotel; spacious room (King) with quality bedding and pillows; excellent buffet breakfast and service at the check in desk was outstanding; will definitely stay there again.
Not as great as everyone says

I have no idea why this hotel is rated so well. It’s terrible. Old scuffed up walls and tubs. Even the usb outlets looked like they had been put through a blender Horrible thin scratchy towels Weird random and creepy artwork Toilet ran all night Door did not lock Light switches that did nothing Parking was impossible even with valet in front. It was always full Super noisy. They did provide ear plugs but it’s better to stay somewhere quieter Staff were pleasant but felt tired and just clocking in versus real customer service Would never stay here again
Really Nice Change

It has been a few years since we stayed at the Meterra as we usually stay at its sister hotel The Matrix on the other side of the river. We enjoyed our stay very much. Valet parking is always appreciated and there are lots of restaurants within walking distance. We had a premium king which was spacious and comfortable with good lighting. My only pet peeve is that the towels are looking tired and grey. Perhaps it’s time to replace them. Breakfast which was included was more than adequate. Fresh fruit, scrambled eggs, sausage and bacon, choice of breads, sweet breads, coffee - very nice. Will definitely return.
Loved it, great location, very fresh and comfortable room.

Travelling with another family member in two separate rooms. We found a parking spot right out front on a busy Thursday night (Oilers game on!). Check in was easy and we used the valet parking. The rooms are spacious and comfortable, clean and fresh. I really liked it. Despite facing Whyte Ave which is very loud, with the solid double doors closed I barely heard the traffic at all and didn't need the complementary ear plugs. Slept very well. The standard 12 noon checkout gives a sense of relaxation and plenty of time to explore. As other reviews have mentioned, the room was a little warm. However opening the window on arrival let it cool down pretty well. I'd definitely stay here again.
