Nice but could be better

jtfman (Seattle, Washington) on May 10, 2024

A boutique hotel on Whyte Ave - unexpected for sure! Entry lobby is lovely and the front desk staff person was friendly and efficient. My room was on an upper floor facing west so I had a nice view of the sunset. The room itself was spacious and reasonably well-appointed. I appreciated the Illy coffeemaker and the multiple charging ports on the desk and bedside table. Bathroom was well laid out but in need of upkeep - while the furniture in the bedroom area was in good condition, the wooden vanity in the bathroom was heavily scratched and looked like something left over from a 1950s roadside motel. The towels were dingy and thin - REPLACE THEM! The lounge area was under repair when I visited, so could not get evening drinks and breakfast was served in the boardroom (it was more than adequate and was included with the room price). Overall, this is a nice hotel in an interesting location that could be even better with just a little more attention to upkeep and amenities.

Great location for business travellers from away

NorthStar20030409449 (St. Albert, Canada) on Mar 22, 2024

I was invited to stay at Metterra on Whyte for business meetings. Other than the limited space for drop offs and pick ups for taxis, I found the location excellent. Proximity to restaurants, shopping and the Whyte Ave vibe was good. I appreciated the breakfast lounge and little extras like opening windows for air and ear plugs - although I was away from the avenue and did not need them.

Rooms are very tired

Gillygal23 (Calgary, Canada) on Mar 14, 2024

Staff are friendly, and public spaces are well maintained. The rooms are in desperate need of a complete renovation. Carpets are “crunchy” and the beds are a soft mattress atop a platform bed which slides around and isn’t particularly comfortable. The heat seems to be an ongoing issue in rooms from other reviews and we experienced the same - heat on blast and an inability to control with the thermostat, being told to turn off the thermostat and to crack open the patio door, which obviously creates security concerns. The bathroom is cramped and tiles show mildew in the grout. The pipes under the sink are fully exposed. The towels are small and thin and definitely smell and feel “eco friendly”. Hallways are very dark. Location is perfect for whyte Ave and is very close to campus, which is great. Unfortunately I don’t think we would return unless we know that rooms have been fully and completely renovated.

Great hotel on Whyte Ave.

VanGal6 (Canada) on Mar 08, 2024

Great hotel with friendly and efficient staff. Really enjoyed the hot breakfast which is included in the cost of the room. Unlike other hotels, there was attention to keeping the buffet refreshed and clean. For a free hotel breakfast, this probably rates as one of the best for this type of property. Would definitely stay here again and would definitely recommend.

Not the greatest but ok for whyte ave!

Lobby is beautiful a long with buffet area! Rooms are outdated and not up kept greatly! Beds at bottoms have holes, water damage in bathroom, my conditioner was previously used & was 1/2 empty! Parking was a joke we paid for valet, which is only $5 more than regular parking 1.5 blocks away. We requested our car for 5:30 AM, so I made sure to ask if the car would be swept off and heated up at that time and they said that it would be parked in an underground Parkade! When we came out at 5:30 car did not look like it moved from the front of the hotel it was covered in snow and still at -20. The reason I asked about this is so that I could give them my spare key to leave the car running.
