Should have believed the negative reviews...

Peter M on Jan 01, 2026

If you are considering this resort, you need to look elsewhere. When you read the negative reviews you should believe them! Spend your money elsewhere l, like RIU or Iberostar. We have been to over 25 all inclusive resorts in the Caribbean and this one is by far the worst. The property was due for renovation and repairs 15 years ago... Check-in: none of the room requests that we have put in were taken into consideration. We spent hours at the front desk trying to figure out the rooms. Upon reservation we asked for two simple things: one room with a king bed and the other one with two twin beds (for our teenagers) and for both rooms to be on second floor. Rooms and amenities: The rooms are decent size but very old and tired. There is virtually no sound insulation and you can hear everything that is happening in the building. The mattresses are rock hard. There is NO hot or warm water and there are many places inside the room and bathroom that ate moldy and beat up. We have been showering with cold, not warm water for the entire stay...ridiculous Entertainment: There is no entertainment team around the pool and beach. Food: the food is well below average with the exception of the New Years dinner. People that are on carnivore or keto diet are 100% out of luck. I am basically having to fast because there is barely anything to eat. If you are on general diet and you are not picky you may find cold slices of pizza or old hot dogs and burgers and rice and potatoes. Beach: yes, the water is murky and not clear. But on the plus side there are no waves. Restaurants: Poor selection and virtually no available reservations. We were able to book two dinner reservations upon arrival for our entire stay of 7 days.

Holiday with a bonus stay in hospital

Vacation07904301152 on Dec 30, 2025

Booked a Christmas vacation at Bahia Principe La Romana in rhe Dominican Republic, contracted food/drink poisoning whilst there. I'd avoid these carribean resorts like the plague as their food and hygiene standards are questionable at best. To top it off, I am Writing this from hospital where my wife has been admitted for food poisoning/ Gastroenteritis.

Value for Money - Great for family

N G on Dec 30, 2025

Visited with family over Christmas. Resort is old but great condition and well maintained. Clean large rooms. Pool and beach are also very good. The service and staff is amazing. Drinks are generous. Food is good, could be better. Location is 90 mins drive from the PUJ. Found this very value for money. Definitely not luxury. But highly recommend for good time with family.

Food let's everything else down!

NicknShaz (Stockport, United Kingdom) on Dec 29, 2025

To start with, hotel complex is lovely, gorgeous gardens, nice pool and staff 90% amazing but the food compared to other Bahia Principe hotels we've stayed at was by far the worst which really let this hotel down. The Breakfast was really good but thats where it ended, evening buffet as well as a la cart restaurants were shockingly bad and as for the so called all night snack bar I really would struggle to get my dogs to eat anything from there, as the photos show everything was always unavailable, this wasn't just a one off, it was like this every night! My wife is disabled and struggled to make it to the buffet on several occasions so had to unfortunately resort to the only hotel night snack bar which was genuinely inedible, cold and we wouldn't give it a 1/10. The evening buffet was bad enough but this really was worse than I imagine prison food to be like. There's supposed to be a selection of burgers, sandwiches, hotdogs, fries etc but they only ever had a few room temperature burgers (probably around 4 or 5 most nights), no buns ready to put them on, brown lettuce etc, I could go on but feel this represents the snack bar food quality every night. Also the buffet was OK but very repetitive and not the best, I would give the buffet 5/10 which for a supposed 5 star hotel is unacceptable as far as I'm concerned. We visited 2 a la cart restaurants in our 2 week stay and that was for a reason, food was cold, bland and no better than the buffet unfortunately. Now it's not all doom and gloom, most of the staff were brilliant, friendly and really put their hearts and soul into their work. Their were a few bar staff that were plain rude, uninterested and couldn't smile if they won the lottery but these were very few and far between and as a whole the staff were great (8/10). Drinks were nice and didn't seem watered down but we aren't big drinkers so couldn't vouch for all bars and staff etc. Maid service was good and our maid was lovely, polite and did her job well but room wasn't cleaned to normal standards, I don't blame the maids for this as they are only allocated a very short time to clean the room so the fault definitely doesn't lie with them. Grounds were immaculate and had the pleasure to some beautiful snakes (none venomous and shy) and also beautiful caterpillars, moths and butterflies. Pool was great with plenty of sunloungers and parapettes to see everyone happy. Didn't do any excursions as my wife is disabled and we were told not one excursion was suitable for anyone wheelchair bound which was disappointing as we have always found excursions which cater for those who are mobility challenged but at least they were honest about this. Also the complex was great for wheelchair users but this is where in ended as the rooms were not disabled friendly even after we emailed them many months before we arrived and asked for a wheelchair friendly room (which i have heard they do have but can't confirm this. All in all we did have a pleasant time here bit were definitely ready to come home by around day 10 due to the poor food quality etc. Christmas Gala meal was OK but not the best we've had by any means and one night they served lobster which I got extremely excited about (I love sea food) but the meat was mushy and tasted off compared to how lobster should be (flakey fresh tasty meat) which was again disappointing. We know we will get the same automated reply that everyone else gets from the Management here saying they will look into our complaints etc but know they won't as looking back at older reviews they have done nothing to make the complaints (especially food) better. We wouldn't visit here again but thats not to say the hotel was terrible, it just wasn't a 5 star and we have stayed in far better 4 star hotels and if we were to rate this hotel out of 10 we would give it a 6/10. Anyways we hope our review helps anyone with concerns about booking make their decision and feel free to message with any questions we may not have covered in this review. If you have already booked to come here then we hope you enjoy but if you haven't yet booked it's worth considering other hotels before doing so. Nick & Shaz

Terrible beach !!!

Departure50348162746 on Dec 24, 2025

Service not good !!! Plage terrible: water is constantly brown and murky, so you can't even see your hands when you're swimming. There are also a lot of jellyfish, which are constantly present on this beach and sting very painfully, causing allergic reactions. Be careful. Excursion are NOT SAFE !
