New year was fab at coba ??

blondiet80 (Lagos, Portugal) on Jan 08, 2026

We have had a great 10 days here over new year and January. The rooms are dated but who cares. The entertainment staff , Edgar, hanna, Alejandro, Ronaldo and all the rest, do an AMAZING job. They work so hard and entertain all day and night. Buffet is ok.,it’s typical buffet. Book the a’la carte restaurants way in advance or u won’t get in. Plenty of shuttles to take u between resorts and around, we mostly walked. The hacienda is fun at night, outside club and a casino and shops including a 24 hour min mart. Last shuttle at 2am. The manager Alejandro is brilliant. I would return but I think we would choose a different resort as they are a bit nicer and newer but this one is definitely the most fun . You can upgrade to use all the other resorts and bars etc, if not you can only use coba facilities.

If only people here were honest. They are not.

Yana S on Jan 07, 2026

The staff cheat you for money. Especially if you don't speak Spanish. We were tired on the first day, they approached us, we thought what they were offering was free, in fact they made us pay for our drinks even though they were free. Everyone tries to sell you something which is also avaliable for free. Beware when you come here and don't fall for their tricks

Okay, but not a 5 star hotel

Laura C on Jan 05, 2026

This is not a 5 star hotel. The bedrooms are dated and smell very musty. It’s also not on the beach so you have to go to the Akumal or Tulum property to access the beach. It’s good for the value if you can handle the musty smell. We are part of the loyalty program but have no idea what benefits are often, that wasn’t shared. Had to pay to access the other hotels so we could enjoy the beach, pools and buffets at those. Would stay at any of the others before Coba again.

Great Kids Entertainment, But Overall Experience Falls Short

Charles T on Jan 05, 2026

Stay at Bahia Principe Grand Coba – December 23 to 30, 2025 Entertainment and children This is clearly the resort’s strongest point. Excellent entertainment for children throughout the day and evening. Shows, the Kids Club and Teens Club are dynamic, well run and very enjoyable for kids. Children’s equipment and activity material The equipment used for children’s activities is often broken or insufficient. Games in poor condition, limited equipment, balls without pumps to inflate them, and staff reluctance to lend equipment. During one activity, a kayak used in the pool had a visibly patched bottom, which gives a strong impression of neglect. Infrastructure and maintenance The facilities are aging and poorly maintained. Many elements give a clear impression of underinvestment: deteriorated concrete, damaged door thresholds, and rooms and common areas that feel neglected. The lack of maintenance staff is obvious. Food Food quality is acceptable but unremarkable. The themed restaurants (Japanese, Italian, French) are satisfactory. The main buffet is the weak point: understaffed, frequent shortages of dishes and unnecessary lineups (for example, a single omelet station despite high demand). Service, rigidity and daily logistics Aside from the entertainment team, customer service is inconsistent and lacks warmth. Excessive rigidity is a constant irritant: very strict restaurant reservation times, only to find dining rooms half empty, rules applied without judgment and little concern for the guest experience. Other concrete examples include the lack of towels available by the pool during the day (about a 30-minute wait) and the refusal to serve a simple juice to a 7-year-old child because he was standing in front of another section of the same hotel. Environment and hygiene Frequent presence of animals (birds, coatis, agoutis) around food areas. The management of repellents appears insufficient and raises hygiene concerns. Conclusion Despite excellent entertainment for children, the condition of the facilities, rigid rules, inconsistent service and multiple operational issues mean the overall experience does not meet expectations for a resort in this category. We do not plan to return.
