Didn’t receive an upgrade prior to check-in? You may still be eligible to receive a last-minute upgrade at the boarding gate when seats in a higher cabin remain open. When available, upgrades will be automatically allocated to Platinum, Gold and Silver members in priority order by tier, starting with Platinum, and then by eligible fare. The only action required of you is to have an eligible booking, check in a minimum of 75 minutes prior to departure (either online or at the airport) to ensure your booking is captured on the priority list, and to listen for your name to be called by the Customer Service Agent when you arrive at the gate. There's no need to ask the Agent, in fact, approaching the desk may hinder efforts for an on-time departure.

  • Valid on single-guest reservations only where guest is a Platinum, Gold or Silver member; not available on reservations with two or more guests on the itinerary, regardless of tier status of other guests.
  • Upgrades will be from the cabin purchased to the next higher available cabin (i.e. Economy to Premium, or Premium to Business). Upgrades from the Economy cabin directly to the Business cabin are not available.
  • Upgrades to Premium are applicable to all aircraft and destinations across WestJet’s network, excluding flights to/from Europe. Original fare purchased must be one of the following:

  • Upgrades to Business are applicable to the Boeing 787 Dreamliner aircraft on flights operated within Canada only. Original fare purchased must be one of the following:

  • Valid for flights throughout WestJet’s network on itineraries marketed and wholly operated by WestJet (including WestJet Encore and WestJet Link by Pacific Coastal Airlines), as well as WestJet-operated segments of partner-marketed itineraries. Not valid on interline bookings.
  • Eligible member's WestJet Rewards ID must be on the booking at the time of check-in and member must be checked in a minimum of 75 minutes prior to departure (either online or at the airport) for the member to be added to the priority list.
  • Pending availability and subject to meeting the criteria above, complimentary upgrades at the gate will be allocated in priority order by tier status, starting with Platinum, and then by eligible fare, in descending order. The likelihood of an upgrade will vary based on number of seats available for upgrade and number of top-tier members on the flight. If successful, a seat will be automatically assigned prior to the start of boarding, and the member will be called to the gate to receive a new boarding pass and seat number.
  • Upgrades to a higher cabin will be automatically processed and provided to eligible members. In the rare event that a member wishes to decline an upgrade, they are requested to speak to an agent who will make best efforts to re-accommodate back to the original cabin.
  • All complimentary upgrades at the gate will be facilitated through the above process; requests for upgrades outside of the above criteria or priority order, either at the airport or on board the aircraft, are not available.
  • Members who receive an upgrade to a higher cabin will enjoy the same inflight service as all other guests, however, dining options may be limited when a complimentary upgrade has been provided.
  • If a member wishes to be excluded from receiving all future complimentary upgrades (both prior to check-in and at the gate) they must contact us by email to make the request. Please allow up to 30 days for your member information to be removed from our automated processes.
  • Complimentary upgrades at the gate are subject to these benefit terms and conditions and are offered on a space-available basis at WestJet’s sole discretion. WestJet reserves the right to change the terms and conditions at any time. Moreover, WestJet does not guarantee that all seats within the Premium and Business cabins will be made available for upgrade; there may be occasions where seats within these cabins remain unoccupied or are allocated to other guests at WestJet’s discretion.
  • May only be used as described, has no monetary or other exchange value and is non-transferable.
  • Terms and conditions of this benefit are subject to the Program Terms and Conditions at the time of redemption.

With the purchase of eligible fares, Platinum, Gold and Silver members may be eligible for complimentary upgrades to Premium prior to check-in on most WestJet flights (excluding flights to/from Europe). When seats for complimentary upgrades prior to check-in are made available to WestJet Rewards, they will be automatically allocated in priority order by tier, starting with Platinum, and then by eligible fare.

  • Valid on single-guest reservations only where guest is a Platinum, Gold or Silver member; not available on reservations with two or more guests on the itinerary, regardless of tier status of other guests.
  • Upgrades to Premium are applicable to all aircraft and destinations across WestJet’s network, excluding flights to/from Europe. Original fare purchased must be one of the following:

  • Eligible member's WestJet Rewards ID must be added to reservation at time of booking.
  • Pending availability and subject to meeting the criteria above, complimentary upgrades will be automatically allocated in priority order by tier status, starting with Platinum, and then by eligible fare, in descending order. The likelihood of an upgrade will vary based on number of seats available for complimentary upgrades and number of top-tier members on the flight. If successful, a seat in Premium will be automatically assigned prior to the opening of the 24-hour check-in period and visible to the member when checking in.
  • Members who meet the criteria above but do not receive an upgrade prior to check-in will automatically have a second opportunity to receive a complimentary upgrade at the gate, provided they check in for their flight (either online or at the airport) a minimum of 75 minutes prior to scheduled departure.
  • Members who receive an upgrade to a higher cabin will enjoy the same inflight service as all other guests, however, dining options may be limited when a complimentary upgrade has been provided.
  • If a member wishes to be excluded from receiving all future complimentary upgrades (both prior to check-in and at the gate), they must contact us by email to make the request. Please allow up to 30 days for your member information to be removed from our automated processes.
  • May only be used as described, has no monetary or other exchange value and is non-transferable.
  • Terms and conditions of this benefit are subject to the Program Terms and Conditions at the time of redemption.

  3. WestJet flights are flights marketed by WestJet, which is a flight with a WS carrier code preceding the flight number, and eligible toward tier qualifying spend (see note 1). The flight may be operated by WestJet, WestJet Encore or a partner airline. Earn rate on eligible WestJet-marketed flights is calculated as a percentage back in WestJet dollars on the base fare paid; taxes, fees and charges are not eligible.

  4. WestJet Vacations packages are packaged vacations for up to nine guests on a single booking which include, at minimum, airfare and accommodations, and are sold for a combined base package price. WestJet dollars are not awarded on WestJet Vacations group bookings (10 or more guests on the same reservation).

  5. Car rentals, hotel stays, travel insurance, meal plans, attractions, and transfers are ancillary products sold individually by a third-party partner, or by WestJet Vacations as a land-only booking (i.e. without airfare). 7. Only available for residents of Canada. Terms and conditions apply. Visit westjet.com/creditcard for complete details.

  8. Milestone awards are directly tied to the member’s milestone qualifying spend at any point in time and are independent of tier qualifying spend and tier status. Members who achieve tier status and benefits through a promotional offer, or through Status Lift, are not eligible to receive milestone awards until the specified milestone qualifying spend requirement(s) are met. Should a member be eligible to choose an award (applicable to awards at $8,000 and above), they will be able to make their selection when signed into their account on westjet.com. The choice must be made, and the award used, prior to the expiry date. Terms and conditions for redemption of individual vouchers awarded as a milestone award apply. See westjet.com/tiers for more details.

  9. Effective September 1, 2021, milestone qualifying spend is tracked separately from tier qualifying spend.
