An amazing start to 2026!
Alan L on Jan 10, 2026
My wife and I stayed at Secrets Punta Cana starting January 1st, and while the resort is beautiful, the staff is what truly made this trip unforgettable. We stayed in the Preferred section and had Almonte as our butler—he was outstanding. Every message was answered quickly, every request handled seamlessly, and he always went above and beyond to make sure we were taken care of. Our favorite spot was the Preferred pool, not because of the pool itself, but because of the people. The staff there were warm, energetic, and genuinely fun to be around. They brought the best vibes every day, kept everyone smiling, and made the atmosphere feel like one big group of friends rather than guests and staff. A huge thank you to Vicente, Felix, Rosa, and especially Fanny Luz. They don’t just provide service—they make you feel like family. We’re already looking forward to coming back just to spend time with them again. Cheers to the incredible staff at Secrets Punta Cana for an amazing start to 2026.
AVOID THIS GHETTO HOTEL - Better Secrets Resorts out there…

AVOID this place. This is my 4th Secrets resort - and by far the WORST ONE. Brutally honest review below (plus some positive call outs at the end). This hotel caters to working class Americans and Canadians who have NO clue about what a real 4/5 star hotel experience is and therefore no idea what good quality food should taste like. If you like getting wasted and eating trash all week then this place will be fine. However, they charge 4/5 star resort prices and deliver a 3 star experience. More blunt truths below: The hotel is dated and not looked after (chipping paint, old furniture, old rooms.) The pool and beach area are the only areas that are ok. They have a quiet pool area that is beautiful and the only place that met our expectations of a Secrets resort. -Cleanliness is lacking across the hotel/ I feel like they want to cut corners everywhere. Even when they did our rooms: Watered down soap was provided in our shower ( I had to write to the cleaning lady to change this). -WiFi doesn’t reach beach area (not the case in other Secret resorts). - Beach chairs are very limited (we had to bribe someone to reserve some for us each day) -Beach area constantly crowded by volleyball games (which meant people who were relaxing and sunbathing kept getting hit by the ball). They should move this area away from the lounging area. -Only one towel hut for the entire hotel ( plus restrictions on towel quantities) -Food quality and variety is disgustingly low: everything is reheated and recycled from the previous day. Even “fresh” food cooked in front of you is actually just reheated pre cooked chicken/ steak on the grill. Totally inedible. Even the quality of the tropical fruit was questionable. - Waiters wear hairnets while serving food and yell across the restaurants at each other. Serious waiter etiquette training is required here. - Only one jacuzzi for the entire hotel - which was COLD (and therefore never used) the entire 10 days I was there. Never fixed. Honestly, I had a very different and more luxurious experience at Secrets Maroma and Secrets Akumal and Secrets Cap Cana. This hotel needs to take guidance from those hotels and improve asap. I want to call out people who did go out of their way to make our stay pleasant and are clearly hard working individuals: -Paola - works at the gift shop and was very helpful -Nery - works at Coco cafe and has amazing energy and work ethic -Santos - the poor guy is the only one manning the grilled chicken and steak area (even if it was gross he was great) -Mayelin - waitress at the buffet restaurant who was very friendly lunch -Carlos y Adel - work at the Himachi restaurant and provided a wonderful experience after days and days of eating horribly everywhere else. - The entertainment team work tirelessly every day and have great energy.

Great resort with nice beach. Recommend upgrading to preferred-it was worth it! Good food! Recommend using on onsite Amstar for activities.
Great Trip in the DR

Great Stay… was as expected if not slightly better. A+ staff. We upgraded to ‘Preferred’ and our butler (Alberto) was the best staff person we have ever worked with … attentive and extremely helpful. He helped make this trip one of our best ever! Preferred pools were great and offered swim up bars and late afternoon pool parties. Beach area was one of the best too. We have stayed on Bavarro Beach before but this area offered bigger beach area than other spots on the beach. Only drawback was with chair ‘stealing’ on the beach. Even if people had towels, books, etc… on chairs, others would come and take the chair if it was unattended. Happened more than once (not to us).
Impeccable hotel and service

From the moment we stepped into the lobby we were impressed. Good design, tasteful decor. The personnel, from the receptionist to the bus boy: very friendly but polite, not overly familiar. Everybody seemed genuinely warm and eager to help, at the same time very professional and efficient. You might not notice it from day 1 but in the course of a week it became apparent to us that everything is very well managed. No need to mention the cleanliness and attention to public hygiene visible everywhere. From the many restaurants available, we chose to eat only at the buffet. One week was not enough to sample everything offered. Do not go there if you are watching your waistline! Resistance is futile. If you are curious, the crowd was a decent lot. It makes a difference what sort of fellow tourists share the premises with you. Let's put it like this: the tattoos were discreet. Being "adults only" ensures a lower level of noise. The 20 to 30 year olds were marginally represented. The 30 to 45's were a tad more numerous. The bulk were those in their 50's to 70's. That meant no shouts in the hallways, no loud cheering at 2 AM, no noisy groups talking at high volume. What I also liked was that the tourists seemed to be very polite and friendly towards the personnel. No arrogance or condescendence. No "I pay you are my servant" attitude. It looked like the majority were from the US and Canada. Anyway, English was spoken across the board I did not notice any tipping. It looks like it is not expected. We left the customary tip for the room cleaner and an occassional $2-$3 for the waiters. The service was impeccable even when we did not tip. The entertainment was decent. The poolside activities were OK. There was something for everybody. Yoga on the beach, aerobics in the pool, stationary bikes half submerged in the pool for (how should I call it?) "aqua cardio", funny contests.... you name it. A disco and casino, a show at 9 PM every night. If you do not want to leave the resort you do not get bored. All in all it was a an excellent experience. Much more than what we had been expecting at US $2,000 per person including return flight from Toronto (departing on Jan 01 - which was probably cheaper than 2-3 days around this date).
