If you want to walk around a tropical paradise everyday, be totally spoilt and have every single member of staff you walk by greet you with a smile like an old friend, then don’t hesitate and book this hotel! This is the first trip advisor review I have ever written so that shows how strongly I feel about recommending Secrets Akumal! Special thanks to Osuna who always made sure the umbrella and shade were just where we needed them! To Ana and Jose (and all the pool staff) who were always smiling and keeping our drinks full! To Fransisco our concierge who helped with any question we had and of course to Aria, our room attendant, who always made sure the room was spotless! We booked this holiday for our 20th Anniversary and the special touches made it feel so special. I can’t recommend this hotel enough. Thank you!

The resort was wonderfully lush and welcoming, with beautiful tropical surroundings that made our stay feel special from the moment we arrived. We loved all the beautiful animals around the resort and how informative the staff were. Our room was clean and comfortable; however, it did feel slightly damp and musty, likely due to the lack of natural sunlight in that particular location. Additionally, some areas of the resort—especially around the pools—are beginning to show signs of wear. The pools had some visible damage and could benefit from repairs, and the second pool would be greatly enhanced with a swim-up bar. At times, the water was also quite cold. With that said, the staff truly made our holiday exceptional. Their warmth, attention, and energy far exceeded our expectations, and they are the reason our experience was so memorable. A special thank-you to: Luis, for helping us with all our questions and bookings. Thank you for being super informative. Ana (pool bar maid) and Jose (pool concierge), who stood out for their outstanding service. Nothing was ever to much and we loved seeing them. I think they both deserve recognition for how hard they work. They never stopped and would be helpful to guests and their team. I truly appreciate them and how outstanding they made the days. Andrea, for assisting with our kayak tour and always bringing a bright, positive energy to our days. What’s a beautiful person inside and out. Alan, for guiding our kayak tour, leading water volleyball, and of course, making wonderful guacamole with Dido Dido, for the enthusiasm and fun you brought to the guacomole making and water activities. Liz, for fantastic water aerobics sessions. Andres, was so kind and his energy and cheer was infectious. We really enjoyed bracelet-making, and beach volleyball for my husband. Andres spent time talking and getting to know us. He truly made a lasting impression on us. Please extend our heartfelt thanks and congratulations to the entire Secrets Akumal team. Their dedication and passion truly elevate the guest experience. We wish you all the best and look forward to returning in the future.

We enjoyed a fabulous week at Secrets Akumal. It felt like we were in the jungle compared to other resorts we have visited. Good size resort, didn’t feel cramped, enjoyed exploring along the paths looking for iguanas, agoutis and coatis. Our room was very comfortable and the air conditioning worked great (room was at 65F!). Ample space for storing clothes. Had a nice desk area since this was a working getaway. Enjoyed the restaurants especially Seaside and Himitsu. The opera singer and violinist duo at Rendezvous was terrific. We would like to recognize Antonio, Hector, Osuna, and Ana (she so graciously helped us with our Spanish). They took great care of us everyday at the pools and Alan who made Spanish lessons and beach/pool volleyball a blast. Secrets has the best people!! We also took time to walk up the beach and explore the gift shops near the turtle sanctuary. Already looking forward to our return!

Great place! Rooms are great, clean and comfortable. We had a beach front swim out, highly recommend. Beach is lovely, but it can be hard to find a spot, the 6 a.m. towel tossers are out early! Food was good. The grounds are beautiful. You can snorkel right off the beach. The staff were absolutely wonderful.

We just returned home from a fantastic 12 day stay at at Secrets Akumal. One word to describe this resort and the employees would be “Excellente”. They go above and beyond to respect their guests and their needs everyday. They are polite, friendly, and professional. We were greeted in the lobby with cold towels and a cold drink. Check in at the Preferred Club was fast and friendly with Fernanda and Angel. They took great care of us. Our room was very nice with a great ocean view. Housekeeping did a great job every day and Claudia was so friendly. Our building concierge, Francisco, always kept us informed every day with the activities during the day and night. He took care of all our needs and such a great friendly person. The pool concierges, Osauna, Augustin, Ruben, and Jose work hard every day in the sun to make sure all the guests are comfortable by moving umbrellas, picking up used towels, setting up lounges by the pool. Pool servers Noe and Anna also work hard in the heat bringing drinks to the guests. They always remember what your drink is. The entertainment team led by Oliver does a fantastic job each and every day keeping the guests active in all of their activities. They are always very friendly, polite, smiling, and laughing. They make all the activities so much fun to do. All of the restaurants have a very fine food selection and our meals were outstanding. The managers and sometimes the head chef would stop by tables to make sure your meal was up to your expectation. They really want everyone to be happy with the meals. At the Himitsu restaurant, David, the head chef made us an incredible sushi platter to celebrate our 49th anniversary. What a great chef! At Portofino, Jazmin, Antonio, and Manuel did an amazing job. We went to the Market Cafe every morning and we were always greeted by Santiago, the supervisor, Elizo, the manager, and Diago, the server. They would always take time to talk to the guests and they are so polite, friendly, and just outstanding. Great employees! At CoCo Cafe, Sandra works hard all the time but she always finds the time to smile, be polite, and help the guests in many ways. We always stop by for coffee and ice cream. We love to have lunch each day at Seaside Grill. We get the whole fried fish which the chef makes is outstanding. A lot of the guests eating there are amazed by us ordering that. Jimmy, the manager, is always busy making sure the meals are delivered fast to the tables but he makes time to greet the guests. He is such a great guy! He is friendly, polite, and professional. Alexa, the hostess, is so kind, polite, friendly, and a bit shy. She is our favorite hostess! What makes Secrets Akumal a 5 Diamond resort is the amazing executive team of professionals under the leadership of the general manager, Mr. Rafael Cordova. They always show respect to all the guests along with being friendly, polite, and professional. A special recognition to Cesar Montoya, rooms division director, Denise, executive guest division director, and Montseerat Catzin, assistant to the general manager. They always go above and beyond to make sure your stay at Secrets Akumal is the best vacation you ever have. Thank you Mr. Cordova for making Secrets Akumal what it is today! “Excellente”.
