Late Review - but i still wanted to add one as we really really enjoyed our stay here - I loved the spacious swim up room we booked, the jacuzzi in the room was amazing and the little speaker to play your music through above was a great extra touch. I was in heaven at the quiet pool (it was sooooo pretty and tranquil) with the spa type music playing in the background and the waiter drinks/food service to your sun-lounger was so lovely, i felt truly spoilt. Next the Market Cafe for breakfast was the best breakfast i have ever eaten in a hotel, the omelettes were lovely and tasty and the fruit was so fresh and so many choices, everything was wonderful. Lunch here was also fantastic and i enjoyed it every day of my stay. The restaurants in the evening were also a joy, somewhere different to try every evening and the staff very attentive. I loved going for a wander round the complex through the jungle type paths to see the red hanging love-hearts and pretty lights and all the animals from the racoons, iguanas, squirrels, coatis (i think this is what they were called) was amazing to see. The Rendezvous lobby bar was lovely to sit out or in, in the evenings and yet again the service here was outstanding and the drinks were made to a high standard and were very tasty. We watched a band outside this lobby bar one night and me and my husband thought this band was one of the best hotel entertainment bands we have ever seen. They were phenomenal!! I could go on and on but i'm sure you get the idea of how much i enjoyed staying at this hotel. We will be booking again next year for our 10th Wedding Anniversary and i cant wait to go back!!

The service was great, but the climate control everywhere was miserable. Had to have room maintenance, come and bring fans, and the restaurants were hot. The beach is also miserable, due to the Sargasm. In general, we probably won’t come back to this one, or anywhere along this coastal area.

Our entire trip was truly incredible. The spa staff, Astrid, Octavio, and Ana were exceptional! I went to the spa three times for four treatments becuase of how excellent they were! The entertainment staff was also superb, Alan was so friendly and we really appreciated the time he took to talk to us and make us feel at home! We missed the turtle painting and he stopped by afterwards to give us a couple to take home :) Ariancia or (Ari Ari Ari!!) we did her stretching class and bingo activity and she really brought the energy, she was super cool and nice! We also did the paint and sip with Andrea and her energy was so calm, friendly, and supportive which made it a fun experience even while making happy mistakes with my artwork ?? all the performers were also incredible from the absolutely sickkk girl who played the electric guitar, the incredible talent of the violinist, and the singer at the rendezvous were some of our favorite shows. Not to mention the “endless show”, every single one of the performers and singers and the band were inspiring! The turtle watching tour was so much fun, I am super ashamed to say in all the swirl of activity I forgot our main guides name but his assistant Tony and we did it on Tuesday June 16th at 4PM, they really ensured their best that we saw all we could and in the end saw at least 6 or 7 turtles including one giant red shelled one! They were super knowledgeable and made the experience fun for the whole group! We really appreciated all the energy and talent of the staff as a whole! Special shout out to David who served us at Portofino who helped us with our Spanish practice! And lastly, our wonderful concierge Metz!! She helped us set everything we needed up, ensured our drinks of choice were in the mini bar and let us know all the activities of the day. The service here was one of the best we had ever experienced so please pass this on to your wonderful staff!!

This was at the top (tied with Moxche) for the best AI my wife and I have been to, and we will be back. I don't think it gets any better when it comes to food, service, and scenery. We didn't have a bad meal and were never left wanting for anything in those categories. The only slight drawbacks were the temperature in our room, the mattress, and the beach. Leidy, our concierge, did everything possible to have maintenance fix the temperature and brought us a stand-up fan. For some reason, they just couldn't get the temp below 70, and we like to sleep in a very cold room. The mattress had some divots and sloped down on one side, which made sleeping a bit uncomfortable. With the amount of sargassum, there's nothing they could have done, but it made the beach unusable, which was a bit of a bummer, and the smell was very noticeable. The pools and service made up for it, though. We were preferred, but I don't think it's necessary at Akumal unless there's a room you really want. Not having a preferred pool and not being able to use the beach made it so that there wasn't much benefit for the additional cost.

Words can’t even begin to describe how amazing Secrets Akumal was for our honeymoon. From the moment we arrived, we were made to feel like royalty, and the experience only got better from there. First and foremost, the staff were an absolute 11 out of 10. Every single member of staff we encountered went above and beyond to make us feel welcome and cared for. A special mention has to go to Jose and Osuna, the pool concierges, who made sure we were comfortable every day. They were always checking that we had enough shade and even made sure our sunglasses were clean – it was that level of attention to detail that really stood out. At the main pool bar, Sebastian was fantastic. He was so attentive throughout our stay, and by the end of the trip he already knew my husband’s drink order, so there was no need to ask! The pool waiters at the main pool were equally amazing, constantly checking whether we wanted food or drinks. Ricardo and Cruz were particularly memorable and provided exceptional service. Our room was spotless and cleaned to perfection every day, with a wonderful turn-down service each evening. It was clear that the housekeeping team took great pride in their work. The food was incredible across the resort, but the standout for us was Portofino, the Italian restaurant. Every meal there was outstanding and was definitely one of the highlights of our stay. The only minor issue worth mentioning is that the pool water seemed to stain swimwear. My husband’s swim shorts turned a yellow-green colour, which may have been a reaction with sunscreen, but it’s something to be aware of, especially if you bring white swimwear. We also noticed that it affected a couple of pieces of jewellery. Thankfully nothing expensive, but it’s worth keeping in mind. Overall, this was a genuinely incredible trip and one we will never forget. If you’re looking for a place where you can completely switch off, enjoy amazing food, relax in beautiful surroundings, and be looked after by some of the best staff we’ve ever encountered, then Secrets Akumal is the perfect choice.
