What to know if you’re flying on a repatriation flight

WestJet temporarily closes Chinook Lounge (YYC) and pauses lounge benefits in response to COVID-19

As Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to affect our industry and operations, we have made the decision to temporarily close the Chinook Lounge in partnership with the Calgary Airport Authority, effective March 20, 2020.

In addition, we are also temporarily pausing lounge benefits for our Platinum, Gold and Silver WestJet Rewards members, effective Monday, March 23, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. MDT. This benefit pause also applies to guests travelling in Business on our Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner. While some of our partner lounges may remain open with a reduced offering, lounge benefit access to all WestJet guests will be paused until further notice.

Safety is our top priority and we are taking all necessary steps to adapt to the situation resulting from COVID-19. We understand that this may come as disappointing news to guests with current and upcoming travel plans, and we do not take the pausing of member benefits lightly. Thank you to our guests, WestJet Rewards members, and our partners for your understanding and patience. We are committed to providing an update on the re-opening of the Chinook Lounge and resumption of lounge benefits as soon as possible.

Ways to upgrade

There are more ways than ever to upgrade to Premium or Business and enjoy an elevated travel experience.

Terms and conditions

Upgrade fees are on a flight leg segment basis and are non-refundable.

Basic fares are not eligible to purchase an upgrade.

Your original fare rules do not change with an upgraded flight. This includes any rules relating to changes or cancellations. Upgrade fees paid do not count towards your qualifying spend to achieve WestJet Rewards tier status.

 

Baggage allowance for an upgrade to Premium is the same as your original booking.

An upgrade to Business entitles you to the baggage allowance of the cabin, for a maximum of two checked bags. Overweight, excess and oversized bag fees may apply.

Seat space varies by aircraft type. Seats in Premium on flights operated by WestJet Encore and WestJet Link do not have extra legroom or space.

Food and beverages vary depending on aircraft type, flight length, time of day and availability.

Priority check-in, priority airport screening and lounge access are only available at applicable airports.

On-demand dining and turndown service in Business is only applicable on international flights.

If you were carried on your scheduled flight (or on an alternative flight if your scheduled flight was cancelled) in the same cabin that you booked as part of your original booking, and not in a higher cabin.
