Nice resort with room for improvements.

I travelled to GP Bavaro Select as a solo travels January 11-16, Check in was quick and I was able to make my a la carte dinner reservations with guest services. Rooms: - Room is nice, clean, and renovated. Thank you Anja for accommodating my request for a newly renovated room and in a villa close to the main building (Villa 12, room 1125) - Beds are soft, pillows were too soft (my neck was sore all week) - Air conditioner is set to 22°C. It will turn off during the night due to no movement so you will notice the warmth in the room. - Taking a shower flooded the bathroom because of the gap between door and shower frame. Used every towel to dry the floors, thankfully there is a drain for the excess to water to run into - Maintenance came and recommended I put a towel up to prevent the water from going through, okay no. - I could only used the rain shower mode not the handheld shower head so the bathroom wouldn’t flood. - Housekeeping was hit and miss even though I tipped everyday. The coffee maker wasn’t cleaned for 2 days, didn’t receive face towels or hand towels for 3 days; so I dried my hands and face with a bath towel. Food: I had dined at 4 a la cartes: - La Paisana: it was okay. I remember it being better the last time. I had a reservation for 7 and waited 10 mins to be seated. I ordered the skirt steak (medium well) with grilled vegetables and mashed potatoes. Grilled vegetables were dry and served on a chipped plate, received 2 pieces of skirt steak one was cooked medium well, the other rare. - La Lola: Vianna was very pleasant and attentive. I enjoyed the garlic shrimp with vegetables & mashed potatoes. - Sumptuori: Teppanyaki - this was the best meal I had all week. It was fresh and cooked right in front of us. The chef prepared forced rice, salmon, shrimp, chicken and beef. Delish! - Portfino: it was okay. I ordered the ricotta and spinach ravioli in a butter and sage sauce. It was swimming in butter then I saw the disc of butter in my plate. Ravioli could’ve been cooked for another 2 minutes for the right texture. Ambiance was nice and the young man that waited on me, cannot remember his name was very polite. Buffet: I had breakfast there every morning, Jose Reyes made my omelettes to perfection daily. I dined in the buffet for dinner only once which was the night I arrived and the service was awful. Food wasn’t great. I sat for 30 mins before someone came to ask if I wanted a drink, even though they were serving the various tables around me. It was off putting. Samana Pool bar staff were very attentive always making sure I had a drink: Ismael, Jay, Erick, Miguel, Jaritsa, Carlos M. - The pool could be cleaner as there were dead bees, flies and flower blossoms floating in the pool. - At lunch I went to the restaurant closest to the beach (I can’t recall the name) food was not great. It didn’t always look fresh. I had a few stomach troubles for 2 days. Beach: - I went to the beach briefly. The ocean was rough that day with much seaweed. I couldn’t relax because every 2 minutes someone wanted you to buy something, or were shoving a parrot or iguana in your face for a picture. That was annoying. I noticed that not all palapas have shade so you weren’t protected from the sun. Ample chairs but not enough shaded palapas. Nightly entertainment: - I didn’t go to the other resorts for the shows I kept to the GP Bavaro Select and watched the singers perform each evening while having a drink. The performers are quite talented and can get the crowd really engaged. The entertainment staff was good at getting you up to dance. Thank you Rudolpho, i forgot how fun Bachata was. I understand that reviews are very important to the staff. I take note of who I have interacted with what the experience was like. On day 2 of my stay I had 3 people come up to me asking to scan a QR code to write a review about them. I just met you and so no I can’t write a review as we’ve had no interaction of established rapport. I didn’t appreciate that pressure. The people who I have mentioned above are based my own feelings and experiences without being prompted to Tom mention them in my review and experience. Quite a few ppl mentioned that the drinks are watered down. Agreed. When you get a drink in fishbowl wine glass or cylinder style glass it’s filled to the top with ice. By the time you are half way through, there is no flavour left. I ask for either less ice or a double shot of gin or rum depending on the drink. Overall it was a nice time away from the cold and snow, but next PC trip will be at another resort.
