Nightmare start to a very expensive holiday…

589biancaf on Jan 30, 2023

Let’s start with the worst part THE ROOMS……So we stayed for 11nights me, my husband, two children and mother in law and we had to move room THREE times to get a clean decent room. Our first room was dirty, light switches broken, back door broken, smelt musky and generally needed some TLC but we decided to not complain until the morning as we were all tired from a long day travelling BUT my little girl woke up at 3am as she was hungry and as we turned on the lights we saw cockroaches running on the floor! So we decided that was enough to get a different room. So at 3am in the morning my husband had to go to reception and ask to be moved. The man on reception told my husband that he only had 1 room available and it was a upgraded room so he couldn’t promise us we could stay in there and mite be moved the next day but we didn’t care by this point as we was just so tired. BUT the second room was no we’re near better and was definitely not an upgrade, it was exactly the same as the last minus the cockroaches. By this point I was so upset and felt so guilty on my children we decided to go down to reception again and demand to speak to a manager but the guy told us there was no manager available until 9am by this point it was 5am and had no where to clean to sleep for 4 hours or until a room was available. We decided to sit in the sports bar which is open 24hrs. We was there 15 minutes trying to decide what do and in shock that this was meant to be a 5 star hotel but we had no room clean to stay in!! So I decided to speak with the man at reception again to try and work something out, he basically kept telling me that there was no rooms and no manager available. I demanded them wake up a manager as this was an emergency and how we have two young children with no were to sleep. After lots of basically begging he told me you are going to palace hotel which is part of the same group next door. When we got to our third room at 6am it was much better and most importantly CLEANER!! We just couldn’t believe what we had to experience in the first few hours of being there and I was already not expecting good things after reading reviews but I was hoping it wouldn’t be that bad. Next was getting bottled water you literally had to beg for it, you only get 2 bottles a day but we needed more as I had to make up my baby’s bottles also sterilise them and we couldn’t use tap water to do this. My mother in law was staying in a different room and she didn’t have bottled water on arrival or several days after also there was robes and slippers in our room but none in her room. We managed to book all the restaurants the next day which we was pleased about. The food was ok nothing like other 5 star hotels I’ve been too, our favourite was the Japanese good food and good atmosphere but just be aware you feel rushed out as it’s all done on 1 hour time slots. Pools and beach are lovely and grounds maintained well. Entertainment was poor and not like other hotels I’ve stayed at, we ended up having a drink in the lobby and playing cards in the evenings. The transport to get around is really good and never had any problems getting a buggy to drive us around. Overall the resort is just ok and not a 5 star and the rooms definitely need renovating, I would not recommend and would not return to this hotel

Okay let's do this quick!! Food is good! Villa area looks nice from outside but is a bit smelly and rooms are old and need renovations! People are nice as long as you get those dollar bills flying haha Too many salesmen with cheap stuff on the beach and on the resort !

Overall Pretty Good

I’ve been to this exact hotel 3 times now so it’s nice enough to keep me coming back. First 2 times were with girlfriends and this 3rd time was with my husband and 3 kids (18, 16, 13). Rooms need quite a bit of maintenance. Little issues that were annoying but not deal breakers. Loose outlets, broken bathtub faucets, uncomfortable sofa beds, tv didn’t work properly. Food is ok - everyone should be able to find something they like. All meat tends to be way overcooked unless you can ask them to take it off sooner. Pools are great - you can usually find chairs - even we could find 5 chairs all together. Beach is beautiful and we saw them cleaning off the seaweed that washed up overnight. Worth it to get up early at least once to see the amazing sunrise. On-site resort vendors - make sure you barter!! We couldn’t believe the crazy prices they offered up - laughable. Bracelets and earrings with the Dominican stones are NOT worth the $50-80 they suggest. Those things might last a wear or two. We were willing to pay $10 at most per piece and even that is probably too much.

Room ok, Staff ok. PTC living to their claims: average. Long checking time, weak or inexsistant feed back from the PTC staff ( with one exception) on the issues. Unability to get things resolved. Good at taking notes ans showing concern. But stops there.

The resort, is beautiful and the staff very kind and nice. We booked up to the romance suite with the outside shower and hammock, do not do this!! The shower only had scaulding hot water, and the hammock and surfaces were dusty and dirty and covered with cob webs. Our room was clean enough and the beds were comfy, but the mattress cover was badly stained and the top sheet to cover it barely does it job and it was not comforting to see what we had been sleeping on. The efficiency of the staff was poor, but their loveliness made up for this, in most places. The a la cartel restaurants are hit or miss. La Adelita was very good, and the Argentinian place. Most often the food there was very similar to that of what you could get at the buffet diners. These were also not the greatest, and the staff was much less efficient in the larger settings. The food was always mislabeled or not labeled. And they ask if you have any food allergies? But it doesn’t matter!! Everything touches everything there are not nearly enough tongs to go around and everything is a real mess. The drink were good, and the bar staff and servers were all very lovely. We had an incident involving our room and housekeeping, where someone started the room, took the tip, and didn’t finish. The supervisor came and finished our room quickly while we waited outside. It was an extra hassle, and half assed. Not the our room was all the clean anytime. If you do stay-the suites and jacuzzi suites are in much newer buildings and much nicer, our friends were in those and they enjoyed their room. For how expensive the resort is, I did expect more. The beds are extremely comfortable! And the night shows have some really talented dancers that are worth seeing. The lobby drinks are amazing and the dancing is fun! Hemingways was a really cool spot. I’m not staying don’t stay here? But be wary.
