La Adelia at Colonial

5 Tonight we dined at La Adelia and were served by Gérardo. Firstly, what a gentleman (as with all staff here in Mexico), secondly, his knowledge and advice on the menu was second to none. Whilst we aren't big eaters the salad bar was perfect, plenty of choice for everyone. The starter was good, the main course we had (fish), was served hot and just perfect in every way (Thank you chefs), desert, my wife was full so declined, I had the trio! My only wish was that my wife had ordered the same as they were so light and tasty I could have quite easily devoured a 2nd helping. Once again, thank you Gerardo, a Mexican legend from Chris & Sue room 1910.

Edilberto Capitain! Restaurant El Gran Azul was the bomb dot com!! The staff were amazing and gorgeous. Could not recommend enough. Sylvia and Solifad and Nisa particularly made our stay unbelievable.
a sad decline of a once fabulous resort
katemartin2025 on Dec 05, 2025
the beach has all but gone in places now after years of seaweed removal, but worse still is what appears to be a lack of staff in restaurants leading to poor service, and a rejig of evening entertainment that has declined in variety and quality over the last few years. Sadly after 9 visits we are done.

Stunning Resort

Pros… Visually a stunning hotel with beautiful grounds and fantastic service. A la carte restaurants a lovely added extra to the holiday and a change to the Buffetts restaurants, which although plentiful could be cold and a little repetitive. Xtra time, sports bar, a perfect hide out for all your sporting views and 24/7 service. Plentiful room around all pools and no squabbling for space or sunbeds. Aqua was brilliant with Diego. The rooms although dated were spotlessly clean. Cons… Awful smell coming through air con in the room. It was reported and a repair undertaken but only lasted a few days. We were accommodated by a room change which was gratefully received. THE SHOPS… firstly extortionately expensive $10 USD for a bag of crisps & $30+ USD for sunscreen if you run out. Come prepared with your own snacks should you be partial, there is nothing else around. We purchased sunglasses on day one which were faulty, shop refused to exchange them claiming it was only possible with the physical guarantee, despite proof of purchase 9 days prior and Mexican consumer rights. Manuel was arrogant and seemed to take pleasure in being obstructive. Most staff in both shops were really ignorant Overall a fantastic holiday, shame about the shop that the hotel deny responsibility for.
