A great hotel, in a great location for the family.

HNLsuit (Honolulu, Hawaii) on Nov 21, 2022

As it's been said here, it's pretty hard (if not impossible right now) to beat the location of Disney's Grand Californian (here, "DGC") for a family Disney stay. We've stayed at the Courtyard Marriott Theme Park Entrance, which as the name implies is well-situated near the entrance to the Disneyland Esplanade (ticket entrance) - and while the Courtyard Marriott IS a good hotel with a really good location, it is a relatively non-descript walk down the long driveway to Harbor Boulevard, then a walk up the Boulevard to the hotel. Contrastingly, the walk from the Esplanade to DGC is through Downtown Disney, past the huge World of Disney store and various shops. Essentially, if you don't want to keep the Disney vibe going, you don't leave it while walking from the parks to your hotel. The hotel itself is well-done, in the California Arts & Crafts style (explained in many articles much better than I could), and feels relatively luxurious for a family-oriented hotel. The rooms are similarly decorated, with subtle Disney touches in the furnishings. We had a nice view overlooking the Downtown Disney crowds, so we could see the happy park-goers go to and from the park, which our 7-year old enjoyed. Dining-wise, can only speak to Storytellers Cafe, which had a nice buffet dinner; while not earth-shattering, it had a nice variety of foods, including some southwest options. On a prior trip, had tried the character breakfast there, which was great, with Mickey, Minnie, Pluto, and Chip & Dale making their way around the room, and hamming it up with us and the other families - I'd recommend it for families. Didn't get to try Napa Rose for dinner as I'd hoped (no availability), but DID manage to snag reservations for the Disney Princess Breakfast Adventures there, and while slightly expensive ($125/person) it was definitely worth it. The food was very tasty, but the smile on our little girl's face while meeting the princesses (while dressed in her own Sleeping Beauty outfit) was priceless. As noted at the beginning, you just can't top this location, ESPECIALLY after a long day at the park. Even better, it helps extend your Disney day by getting out early, before the rope drop, then sneaking back to the DGC for a nap between say, 3:00-5:00, then re-entering while re-energized for a dinner to closing run (or at least until World of Color!). (note: on this trip, we also stayed at the Disneyland Hotel, as I wanted to compare the two; reviewing the DH separately, but while it's a good hotel, it can't match DGC for location and the luxe feel)

Always excellent

The beds and pillows are so comfortable. Housekeeping staff are amazing they can never do enough for guests. As soon as you walk into the hotel it takes you back to being a child. Thank you for all the extra touches ??
