Not so grand

We stayed at this hotel in July. The room was in bad condition. The bathroom was dirty. Hair left on the wall in a few spots. Called guest service-they didn’t seem to bother. The next day, hair was still there. The toilet was so loud when flushing down. Not so much Disney decorations in the room. Just way too expensive for such a bad and run down room, with poor amenities. Good location-that is one positive. Beautiful Lobby. We didn’t have early entrance for hotel guests at that period of stay so the benefit was even less. It’s not grand like its name.

Not So Grand Experiences at The Grand (2nd time still terrible)

We have stayed at The Grand about a year ago when things first reopened. That time, in 2021, we had a pretty poor experience. We tried to write it off as bad timing and the hotel just being overwhelmed with reopening etc. .. NOPE!! This place seriously lacks in consistently, efficiency, and overall magic. If levels of Magic were measured by characters (and Mickey were the top level) this place would get GOOFY as a rating…. Lacking magic and other things just falling apart in its wake. This trip was for our daughter birthday. On our first night stay, we we enjoyed a broken AC unit in our room. No matter what we did, the room would not get cold. We called for maintenance and he came to our room. Nice enough guy. At 11pm he’s in our room taking apart our vent for the AC (we the the amount of dust). He said he fixed the issue with a bad valve), except the AC never actually kicked on. Then around 1am we are all awake with our kids realizing we are literally sweating in our room, kids are hot and can’t sleep, the room is now hotter than before and I try calling the front, no answer. So I have to get dressed to go down stairs…. Then I learn that the entire hotel is having an issue with the AC system. A power plant shut down that runs the hotel AC. They had to fix it and we’re working on it. It finally was fixed an hour later (2am). But again… I’m paying for perfect experience at these rates, not for a hotel to have the AC break. On our third day we go to get our cabana reservation in the morning. I booked this back in June. They did not have out reservation and the girls seems a bit bothered that I was even asking. They asked “are you sure you booked it”? Seriously? Then the pool host comes over…. And lets me know that our cabana was booked at the Disneyland Hotel NOT the Grand?????!!!!!!! Im highly confused…. Who would do that and why? Why would you stay at one hotel to then go all the way to the other hotel to go in the pool and have a cabana there? The host said it sometimes happens when guest services makes errors. For the amount of $$ this place demands, these are exceptionally terrible errors to be making. Then we are told we cannot have a cabana at OUR hotel because they are booked and that our cabana is literally set up at the other hotel. Of course we are pissed. This isn’t the first time running into issues with this place. Last time they also had lost our cabana reservation but were able to set us up anyway. They wanted to charge us the $400+ to go to another hotel to use their cabanas. The host then said if we stay… he would put some chairs together and give us a platter of fruit. ?????? Say what???! If I wanted to sit at some chairs I can do that for free. So we get a manager. Explain our dismay at this entire issue. The manager then said they will not charge us for the cabana if we go to the other hotel, they will drive us, and will comp our food and drinks. He also said he would give us a credit for our room/stay in general. My daughter, birthday girl wanted to go, so we went ahead. We had fun and enjoyed our time… and then waited to have them call someone to come pick us up when we were done. The issue was dealt with. Upon check out we verified that we were not charged for the cabana, we were comped the food and drinks. However, there was no extra $ compensated for the stay. At that point we were done, and I will deal with that later by phone. Just wanted to get out of there, and we will never be returning. (During our first experience last year we had a broken fridge that took them 3 days to finally get fixed because they kept saying someone was coming to switch it out and they never did. No one ever came to our room and later realized they had been doing to the wrong room !!! What??. The manager finally had to go to Target to buy a replacement!!! Our cabana reservation was also lost then, the room never got refilled with towels. No one would ever answer the phone for the front desk or bell service. When we were ready to leave they told us they could not get our bags because it was check out time…. Yup. And then said we’d have to wait for them for almost an hour. To get out car took two hours because they go the Wrong car!!!!! I swear folks…. Level GOOFY!!!!! Don’t stay here for magic.)
