Excellent

Wonderful return visit to the Garden Island! Kauai is like a second home to me! Islander is so centrally located on the east coast ... wonderful shopping near-by! Staff is kind and appreciative of your presence.

Has all the features, but more casual and welcoming

RedPioneer (Carbondale, Illinois) on Aug 28, 2021

We were very happy with the ocean front room and kitchenette, beach & lounges, pool, spa tub, and laundry. Friendly staff. Clean property. All the comforts and treats of tropical vacation, without the off-putting exclusivity and crowd of a huge resort. Convenient location (except for traffic times), with Island Country Market (ABC) just off property (along with nice strip-mall shops and probably a restaurant or two in Coconut Marketplace). Get your coffee at Imua adjacent to the main lobby building. Dinner at the next property north (Hukilau Lanai) was excellent. We didn't get a chance but would have tried Lava Lava Beach Club grill on the other side of the property. It's a humid place with great ocean breezes - fresh air was much better than the A/C, which we suggested they sanitize to reduce a mildewy smell. Gotta love those trade winds though! Property faces Lihue toward the south, so the sunrise is on the left when you're facing the ocean. Stargazing between fast-moving clouds was still quite good. Try to do the walk up the Sleeping Giant at least part way to get a view back over Kapa'a and Wailua - we used the East Trailhead. We would happily stay at the Aston Islander on the Beach again.

Great Location and Beautiful Grounds

amywQ4962XR on Aug 25, 2021

The Aston Islander was a good value. It is in a great location, close to lots of good food and activities. The beach isn’t great for swimming but it is beautiful. The grounds are beautifully kept with many fabulous plants. The down sided was the bed. It and the pillows were ancient and incredibly uncomfortable. The room was also very musty. Decor is very dated.

Great Place to Stay

aahuna (Kaneohe, Hawaii) on Aug 18, 2021

Aston Islander on the Beach is a great place to stay while on Kauai. It's close to the airport and not too far from anywhere else on the island. Plus, there's shops and dining within walking distance. We're locals and we love staying there when we visit from Oahu.

So very disappointing!!!

Odon Y (Tyler, Texas) on Aug 06, 2021

I have mixed feelings on my recent stay at the Aston Islander. The bed was absolutely horrible, it must have been the very same bed since the hotel inauguration a hundred years ago.!!! It was very small, smaller than a queen bed as it appeared in the web page, and it had the the form that makes two bodies over the years. We had to request room service 24 hours in advance! I think that in the middle of a pandemic hotels should clean extremely well and room service should be provided daily. Our terrace chairs were totally ruined, one of them was even broken so even though we had a beach front room we couldn’t be able to sit and enjoy in our balcony for the first three days, till they finally changed the chairs for us as we repeatedly requested. We had to extend our stay and the hotel staff was very helpful and we were relieved not to be sleeping at the airport our last nigh but the bed in the new room was even worse, I could feel literally the springs of the mattress nailing every single part of my body. I ended up spending the night on the couch. It was so disappointing!!! So very disappointing! It’s a shame that guest are not provided with the most essential service in a hotel, THE BED!!! I get it is Kauai and I get that this is not one of the most expensive hotels in the island, but it hasn’t been cheap either. I think that for what we paid we should have been able to enjoy a decent bed and room service every day.
