Next Steps

You've signed your offer letter, what happens next?

Prior to your start date, you will receive an email from your Leader and/or our Training Team outlining details for your first day. This will include:

  • Photo ID request form to get your employee ID card started
  • Location details, maps to the office, and parking instructions
  • Your schedule for the first week

Welcome Aboard Orientation:

As a part of your onboarding, WestJet offers a program called Welcome Aboard. Welcome Aboard is a three-hour introduction to the mission, vision, values and culture of WestJet. 

This class is designed to welcome and connect our new hires with WestJet in a virtual and interactive way. You will learn about where we've been, where we are, and -most importantly-  the part you'll play in where we're going. 

You can expect an engaging virtual session, filled with media, activities and great discussion. For this class we utilize the Microsoft Teams Platform. Please find a "How to Get Started" guide here

During your first week, you will meet with your leader, team members, and members of other departments. Training will be a combination of classroom, e-learning, and on-the-job training to gain competency on systems and duties specific to your role. 

 

Work Environment

WestJet operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and 365 days a year. To run a smooth operation, we have shift schedules to adhere to operations appropriately.

 

RAIC and Restricted Operator Certificate- Aeronautical

RAIC

Some roles in the OCC may be required to obtain a RAIC in YYC. Please note that it is your responsibility to meet all RAIC holder requirements including return of the RAIC to the issuing Pass Office for any leaves over 30 days, and to coordinate RAIC renewal applications through the same Pass Office.

Restricted Operator Certificate- Aeronautical

In roles where communication through VHF Radio is necessary, radio license (Restricted Operator Certificate- Aeronautical) may be required. WestJet will orchestrate testing to obtain the license if necessary and not already possessed. 

Union & Employee Association

Some roles within the OCC are represented by Unions. Dispatchers are part of the Canadian Airline Dispatch Association (CALDA) and Load Controllers are represented by the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAMAW). Others are represented by an Employee Association.  If you are uncertain, please review your offer letter or talk to your leader about which one you are a part of.

Unionized Groups are Transport Canada regulated. Specific requirements must be met to be employed in a Dispatch role:

Dress Code

 

Business Casual Dress Code is the expectation. 
 

  • No ripped clothing or inappropriate images/words are allowed.
  • Jeans and sweaters are fine!
  • The training rooms can be chilly so best to bring layers.

Health & Wellbeing

 Greenshield

Greenshield+ is a fantastic tool WestJet has partnered up with in our Employee and Family Assistance Program (EFAP), to provide confidential counselling and information to you and your family.

You will receive access within your first 30 days of employment. If you require access immediately, please reach out to your leader.
