Disappointed for how expensive it is

Aaron M on Feb 12, 2024

We wanted to like Itz'ana more than we did. The hotel itself is absolutely beautiful and stunning with a perfect setting. The bartenders and wait staff were so friendly and great. But something was missing. First off, I think the front desk and concierge need more help or more resources. Pretty much everything we asked for they seemed like they wanted to help but the hotel couldn't (like an early breakfast because we had to get on the road early, or recommendations for dinner or a spa in town.) Also, the really cool bar they are famous for was closed for construction while we were there. I know construction can be unavoidable, but some locals in town told us the bar is like never open anymore because of staffing issues. One final gripe, the massages cost upward of $200 for 90 minutes. That's more expensive than NYC, SF, and LA. I simply cannot understand why they would be so expensive, especially since the massage room is just a converted hotel room.

Solo traveler

Andrea H on Feb 11, 2024

I wanted to love Itz'ana. I'm a solo traveler and love to explore new places. I chose Placencia and in particular Itz'ana after reading an article of a solo traveler who suggested the resort. While the staff were superb, there are some items that beg attention and have made me reconsider ever staying at Itz'ana again. My room had mold in the bathroom ceiling and the hotel room itself needed a bit of updating (a few light bulbs went out and the terrace was not usable at light because the bulbs were out). As friendly as the concierge staff were, they weren't well versed in the amenities and activities organized by the resort. The few interactions that left a bad taste for me were a time when a person I assume was a manager let a guest know about drummers, but completely ignored me so I just walked over and asked the guest. There was another event going on and one staff member let a couple know, but didn't say a word to me. It felt odd... lastly, it was my birthday and I had let some staff know. Normally, resorts will do a nice gesture like leave flowers in your room or give you a birthday dessert, but nothing. I appreciate thoughtfulness and engagement and Itz'ana is unfortunately lacking in that department and that feels like a management challenge. The one area of strength is the staff who were were incredibly kind and helpful.
