Kiahuna Plantation Resort Kauai by Outrigger: A Mixed Stay
adventix (Boston, Massachusetts) on Aug 08, 2026
Our stay here was okay, but nothing more. First, the rooms don't have AC — this was actually noted on the booking site, but we somehow missed it. To be fair, the heat wasn't unbearable: during the day you'll definitely feel sticky if you're in the room, but with the fans running and doors/windows open, it's manageable. Evenings can still feel warm, but temperatures drop noticeably overnight, making it easy to sleep without AC — that is, until around 4 AM, when the dozens of wild roosters nearby start crowing, and with the windows open for airflow, you hear every bit of it. The kitchen and its dishes had a slightly stale smell, and the ice cube trays in the freezer were unpleasant — a real inconvenience since the fridge has no built-in cold water or ice dispenser. Otherwise, the apartment was comfortable. We stayed a week and received one towel change midway through, which was sufficient. There's a laundry room at the complex, but it requires driving to reach. A Starbucks sits just across the street, though it gets quite busy in the mornings. The resort beach is lovely, and free beach towels are available (returnable each evening). Bottom line: not a bad stay, but we didn't feel we got our money's worth, and we won't be returning.
Great spot!

We really enjoyed our stay at Kiahuna plantation. Great location with food options nearby. The grounds are beautiful and super green and smell of the plumeria trees. Our room was clean and it was great to have a kitchen. Our room had AC which made all the difference on the warmer days. The pool was across the road but it wasn't too big of a deal for us. We only went once but kids loved it. We ended up staying there for an early dinner as well. We would for sure stay here again.
Heavenly

This is a near-perfect place to stay in Hawaii. We’ve been coming every year since 2015. Great beach. Friendly people run the place, gardeners and staff are kind and thoughtful- its a gem.
If you love leaf blowers and land zambonis,

Third time here .the condos are fine .average. Good location for the beach. That’s where it ends. The rest of the time is spent getting very angry with the sound of leaf blowers every 15 mins .its anime so noisy .never again. Went to make a complaint basicytold to kick rocks. It’s ruined a quiet vacation. You have been warned
Great host/ SOME front desk people didn't serve customers well

We arrived on a Monday night, checked into our unit, then ran to a grocery store. When we got back we saw that, neither of the two tvs worked, We called the front desk and were told there was nothing they could do/ we had to wait till the next morning for maintenance. The next morning, the maintenance man, did indeed come, in fact, let himself right into our code accessed door. He ended up replacing the cable on one tv, then said the remote on the other tv did not work, so we would have to use one for both tvs. Ok. We realised we would need more towels than they gave us for our 3 night stay. so I went to the front desk and was told that we would be charged for more towels! Really?! So, that is the negative stuff about some of the front desk staff. So, I contacted the host/owner and I have to say she was great! She contacted the front desk and made sure we got the towels we needed, and also let us have a late check out without further charge. So I will give her 10 out of 10. The front desk people only get a 6. I loved that the condo was ground floor and we would walk out the lanai with grass and the path to the beach. The bed was comfortable and the condo had everything we needed. Also liked that they had boogie boards for us to use. In the advertisement they said there was a pool, but from our unit it would be quite a ways to cross the street to the athletic club's pool. The grounds were pretty big and I never did find the beach towel hut. Overalll, I liked the place, and appreciated the host/owner.
