Our Third Time Here - Never Again!!!!!
Sapphire333 (San Lorenzo, California) on Jan 16, 2023
This is the third time that myself and my family have stayed here in a span of about 25 years. The first two times were a wonderful experience and that is why we went back a third time. But we will no longer ever stay at this hotel. The last time we were here was about 8 years ago and we had wonderful memories of the hotel. We really like Ixtapa so we decided that after being cooped up during COVID we we would enjoy a week of sunshine. When we went to check-in, no one at the front desk spoke English. It was very difficult to communicate. Luckily I brought a print out of my reservation and they were able to complete my check-in. We stayed in the Master Suite (Room 1104) facing the mountains and the boulevard. The room was nice, but there wasn't any literature whatsoever explaining how to use the phone (ie. housekeeping, room service, front desk, etc), what dining options there were and the times that breakfast, lunch, and dinner were served. There also wasn't any room service menu nor anything explaining the hotel activities and info for the spa. Literally nothing. I turned the TV on to the channel for the Hotel info and it was in Spanish -- alot of good that was. We were left to figure things out on our own. Then we learned that we could not longer order food at the pool (last time we were here it was available). We could only order drinks and they would only bring it in a plastic cup one at time. We used to be able to order a bucket of ice with 6 beers and they would bring right to your lounge chair at the pool. Well not anymore. On top of that, they longer have palapas on the beach to lay under. They now have these cabana loungers with cushions. I, myself, don't care for those. One because the cushions are gross, and two you're not able to move from sun to shade or vice versa like when you have a palapa. Then the lifeguard was constantly blowing his whistle to the people out in the ocean. I understand that the flag was red which means swim at your own risk; but the lifeguard was over cautious. My husband and son are really good swimmers and only swam past the breaks and the lifeguard was constantly blowing his whistle and calling them in. They both weren't that far and could still touch bottom. When I looked around at the other hotels and their residents were in the ocean farther out then we were and it wasn't an issue. So we just moved farther down from the Emporio when we wanted to take a dip in the ocean. Also, another thing to note is that if you are in the room facing the boulevard/mountains be prepared for alot of noise. Between the Ohana nightclub on Friday and Saturday nights, and Shakers (aka Senhor Frogs) during the week you will hear the "thumping" of music until 4 or 5 a.m. If you're a light sleeper I definitely would not recommend this hotel. Another thing to note, is that this hotel offers day passes to the locals. So not only are you competing for lounge chairs and restaurant times with the residents you also have a lot of locals visiting this hotel. I felt that the hotel now caters more to the locals than they do the tourist. I don't want to sound snooty, but when I go on vacation and pay more than $250+ a night for my room I expect to feel special and have an amazing experience. Unfortunately I did not feel special nor have an amazing experience.
Pilates Activity was very good.

I love yoga and the resort activities but Angeles was the best!!!! I did Pilates with her, her workout was well prepared, she was very conscious about few exercises I can do and adjusted the routine for me. Look for her at the Activities desk by the pool.
