Mediocre

JONATHAN P (Morelia, Mexico) on Jul 27, 2026

Our stay at Emporio Ixtapa was mediocre overall, with several maintenance and cleanliness issues. When we arrived, there was no running water. It was restored later, but the faucets wouldn’t shut off completely and the shower head dripped constantly, day and night. We also found small cockroaches in the rooms and around the hotel facilities. On one day, I also found a small blood stain on my pillow. There was no fridge in the room to keep our drinks cold, despite refrigerators being advertised as one of the room amenities. The pool water was far too hot to be refreshing, while the jacuzzi was surprisingly cool. Breakfast was limited and repetitive, mostly tortilla-based dishes and eggs, with a small selection of bread and cereal. Chicken prepared essentially the same way was the main meat option every day, except for birria once. We also saw flies on the fruit at the buffet. The room windows only opened about 20 cm. One was broken, while the other had vomit on the outside, so we couldn’t use them to hang our clothes to dry. Nighttime entertainment felt like an afterthought, usually consisting of a singer or karaoke. During the day getting equipment for ping-pong or foosball required crossing the pool area to ask for it rather than simply requesting it at reception. The staff was generally fine, but the hotel itself needs more attention. Emporio Ixtapa seems very focused on its branding, while basic maintenance, cleanliness, food quality and amenities could use considerably more attention.

A splendid first experience.

The hotel was clean, comfortable and the staff were very accommodating. Saul Bello, a senior manager, was particularly helpful; as were his front desk staff. There were some minor issues related to language fluency but they were dealt with properly. A good introduction to Ixtapa.

Outdated Hotel

William M on Feb 13, 2026

This beachfront hotel is well located in the middle of town. Great shopping, restaurants and sports bars across the main street. Unfortunately, the rooms are dated, windows are dirty, pool crowed with children (not sure if pool is cleaned daily) food is so so, music very loud at the pool and at night. They also sell daily passes for pool access which makes it even more busy for hotel guests. However, the staff is great.

Great value

If you are looking for luxury this might not be for you. If you are looking to stretch your dollar I would highly suggest the Emporio. The Emporio is no fancy place but every night we felt safe and the hotel room was very clean. We chose to do the breakfast only plan and it was perfect. They have a great breakfast with some authentic Mexican breakfast foods. My only critique for the hotel is they should replace the umbrellas by the beach and put in real palapas. This would drastically improve the feeling down by the beach in my opinion.

Simple, Clean, Good Value

The emporio is a great beach hotel with good value for the price. If you’re looking for luxury, go elsewhere, but if you want a clean, no frills beach hotel this is perfect. The rooms were cool and very clean. The breakfast buffet was also very good. The beach chairs are a bit dated and real palapa would be better than the umbrellas. It also was very loud some nights when there was a show. Overall, the hotel was not very expensive, and was a good value for the price.
