Fun times at the Iberostar Selection Cancun
bill w on May 18, 2026
We were at the Iberostar Selection Cancun May 10-14th, 2026. We have been to many Cancun all inclusives. There's a good vibe at the Iberostar from the moment you get dropped off until you head back to the airport. Our only complaint was not the resort, but the Caribbean. This was our first vacation in May in Cancun. The sargassum was an issue. It was on the beach and in varied thickness at the waters edge. Special thanks to Jimmy and the entertainment team, Abisai in the Buffet restaurant, and Dariana at the front check in desk. We will be back but not in sargassum season!

This place was so much fun, I never got bored once the whole time. I was there for five days and enjoyed all the awesome activities that Jimmy and the entertainment crew put together. Such a memorable experience that I’ll never forget. Can’t wait to come back!
Another great stay

Spent 12 nights here and had yet another great stay. The receptionist told us that the hotel was full so couldn’t give us an upgraded room for a couple of days. Checked in to our first room which was in the main building and all was good. Not the biggest room but was what we originally booked and had been happy with. Two days later we were moved to a Star Prestige villa which was a much nicer and larger room and bathroom with use of a private pool reserved for Prestige members. It was away from the main part of the hotel and a lot quieter. As before the food was really good. Apart from the hibachi grill, none of the restaurants take dinner reservations. Saying that, because we made a complaint to Guest Service about a restaurant they reserved a table at the American Grill for us the following evening. The Mexican by the beach is great for lunch but we weren’t keen on the dinner menu. And the Italian didn’t quite hit the spot. But food elsewhere was excellent and to be honest we really enjoyed the vast choice of food in the buffet restaurant. Chef Daniel is the restaurant manager and appeared in all restaurants during our stay and he stopped to interact with most guests and took comments on board. Chef Danay was frequently seen in the buffet and again she interacted and was most helpful. Juan, new Manager in the American Bistro was an absolute star and will be a great asset to the hotel - we met him on his first shift and he was great and made a point of looking out for us after that. We again had access to Star Prestige lounge (assume through Ihg Lounge Pass) which has a bar with top shelf drinks and snacks. We used to head there for a pre dinner drink and canapés. The only downside is the snacks are exactly the same every single evening which lets it down. The ladies behind the bar were great and after a couple of days knew our drinks before we asked for them. There is quite a lot of hard sell for timeshare / shared ownership especially when you arrive. Reception direct you to Guest Service to go through the resort map and restaurant information and this is where they try to lock you in to a breakfast meeting and property tour. After a couple of days though they gave up. Evening entertainment has vastly improved since our previous visit but some of it is still a little amateurish. Once a week they have a rock show but you have to pay extra to watch it (think around £40pp) so we have never bothered. We were walking by when this show was just about to start and a staff member asked if we wanted to see it. We said yes but we didn’t want to pay. He told us to go ahead with no charge. We just walked straight in with several others. The show was excellent. We didn’t leave the hotel - have visited Cancun many times so ticked off all the tourist bits - and it was a great place to relax and unwind. Would highly recommend the hotel and we will return.
Beautiful Family Friendly Resort

Stayed at the adults only resort on the property, Iberostar Selection Coral Cancun, and walked over to this resort a few times during our stay. Huge pool. Beautiful beach. LOTS of kids activities. Beach is handicapped accessible too. Go to the 9th floor and take some pictures from the windows facing the beach and lagoon. Great family friendly resort. Perfect for a family getaway or a destination wedding.
Mexico experience

The resort itself is beautiful, surrounded by jungle and beach, and the employees were very friendly. However, entertainment and the food was disappointing. My kids had a hard time finding things they actually wanted to eat, and they are not picky at all. Mexico has also become extremely expensive compared to the last time I visited. It honestly feels like tourists are treated like walking ATMs. For example, I paid $62 USD for just one sunscreen and one bug spray at the resort, which is absurd. I love Mexico, but at this price point, it’s not worth it. Destinations like Jamaica, Brazil, the Dominican Republic, and Puerto Rico are just as beautiful and far more enjoyable for the cost.
