Great hotel in a very central location, right in the thick of Havana, music all day everyday, which we loved but certainly not a quiet place ??

Excellent service and nice breakfast. We taped for 2 days and the personal helped us a lot to understand how to deal with locals.

A Changing Of The Guard Needed

The hotel is a 4 star and as such lives up to this: very clean, spacious, accommodating and great service. The problem is with security specifically outdoor security. You have likely read similar reviews but here are my comments: - collusion by some inside staff with outdoor scammer artists: taxi drivers, money exchange, etc. In fact two staff members admitted such to me. - you are continuously hassled by scammers in front of the hotel. If you have seen or been there you will be aware of the large outdoor terrace adjacent to the sidewalk. Instead of security dispersing these scammers to go elsewhere they don't do or say anything. There are other hotels with outdoor terraces in Havana that I have been to and none of these hotels tolerated this. - there are scammers with badges on them reading 'taxi' and these are unofficial drivers who will have you walk 2 or 3 streets to get into an old beat up Lada car. These are not official government sanctioned taxis and you won't save any money using these 'fake' cars. - you'll get royally ripped off exchanging money in front of the hotel. I won't go into details but exchange your money at banks or at the hotel lobby only. There are many scammers all over Havana with scam money exchanges but most hotels will not let them operate on or near their property - not Ingleterra. - there are so many scammers in front of the hotel that you must be very vigilante with your belongings especially your money. Start talking to one Cuban hustler and quickly there will be one or two more. You'll be surrounded by them and this is how your belongings can disappear. The hotel does nothing to disperse these people. At a 4 star hotel you should expect your surroundings to be safer. They're not at Ingleterra. Their security issues could be quickly resolved with more dedicated staff but this does not appear to be a priority for them. Of course, I expect the management of Ingleterra to respond to my comments but keep in mind I am not the first to address these issues and to date they have done nothing to resolve these issues. So whatever they respond is lip service. Time to change the management of this hotel.
