I did quite a bit of research before booking and could not find a lot of information so didn't know exactly what to expect. The check in was seamless and we were assigned the last room at the end of the hall on the top floor, when we were checking out the amazing view from the balcony, the sliding glass door auto locked and we were literally stuck outside with no handle. Beware of this danger! Thankfully we were able to flag down another guest who called housekeeping to let us in! The rooms overall are spacious, modern and comfortable with a minibar, safe and bath amenities. The resort is perched on a steep hillside with the rooms at the top and the two beaches/ one large restaurant and pool at the bottom. A long walk down a zig zag ramp or a short walk down a very steep driveway. Mostly Mexican families and very few international guests. The staff were mostly all very friendly except for the pool bartender who seemed a bit grumpy and bothered to serve you. Martin the pool waiter was very fast and friendly as was the housekeeping services. The pool and deck chairs were in need of cleaning and repairs but still very enjoyable with amazing view to swim alongside the jungle on one side and the view of the ocean on the other. The food was surprisingly Excellent and delicious with a different theme each night for dinner Also the wifi is pretty terrible, it only worked sometimes in some spots. Did not work in room or beach at all. Due to this we were not able to use the hotel app to order room service , We were able to call in our order which was a big hassle because nobody spoke in English. Even though I speak quite a little Spanish, it was still difficult to place the order and what was worse is when the waiter delivered the food he provided us with a bill which we paid and upon checkout he never gave the payment to the restaurant. He kept it as a tip and we had to pay twice! We only stayed for 4 nights which was just the right length of time for this resort. I would most definitely return. Enjoyed our stay. This is not a typical warm weather all inclusive resort - in some ways that's great - but you should know what you're getting before you go. I traveled with a friend From Dec 24-31, 2025 on a WestJet Vacations package booked last minute through SellOffVacations. Direct flights between Calgary and Huatulco both ways using WestJet aircraft - uneventful and on time with shuttle service on both ends to and from the airport. You could take a cab to simplify things for 300 pesos one way if you wanted to avoid the wait / multi-location drop-off - pick-up scenario but it wasn't really an issue for us other that being at the airport four hours before departure coming home. The hotel is about a 25 minute drive without stops west of the airport right on the ocean and is about a 5 minute cab ride to Crucecita (local town) or the Marina Santa Cruz district (beach / bars / restaurants / shops, etc). It's an 80 peso cab ride from the hotel to either Crucecita Centro (town square, church, restaurants / bars, shops, grocery stores and markets) or Santa Cruz. Hotel Coral Blue is comparatively VERY small (about 100 rooms in one building) and caters primarily to Mexican nationals. We found staff here spoke far less English than at bigger resorts we've stayed at (no big deal) but were very friendly, accommodating, and helpful. The hotel block is at the top of a steep hill / ridge and other than the front desk, rooms, and gym, all other facilities / services are at the bottom of the resort. If you are at all mobility compromised, this is not a great choice of resorts. You move between the hotel block and everything else by going up and down a series of five covered switch-back ramps. It's about 100' vertical change up or down and ~400 adult male strides. It's not a huge deal but you should be very aware of this before going. It certainly makes you think if you REALLY need to dash back to the room for something! Most days we took everything with us for the day when we went down for breakfast. We had a double room on the second level and I was VERY impressed with the mattresses (they seemed new and were VERY comfortable as compared to the more typical rock hard Mexican beds). The room was spacious and the view off the balcony overlooking the cove and ocean below was spectacular. It seemed all rooms face the same direction. The was a mini fridge that was restocked daily with two local beer and two sodas (typically Pepsi but 7up a couple of times) and these beverages were included. There was also a glass bottle of water that you could refill at the front desk at often as you wanted. The toilet / shower area could be closed off from the sink and closet area so one person could be using the facilities while the other was getting ready. The room was kept clean daily with fresh towels and sheets. There was a fairly big safe although ours wasn't actually affixed to anything. The hot water in the shower was spotty at best... sometimes a couple of minutes worth, sometimes none at all, sometimes almost the whole shower. That said - when it was cold it was more refreshing than freezing so not a big deal for us. We did not have noisy neighbours so found the rooms adequately quiet after the nightly entertainment ceased (by ~10:30pm most nights). The TV had lots of channels, the vast majority in Spanish as one would expect. There is only one restaurant on the property - a covered, open-air buffet with lots of seating. There was a different theme each night and a fresh grill with something different each evening meal... burgers or hotdogs at lunch and it doubled as an egg station at breakfast. While we always found something to eat - if food is at the top of your list, you may be disappointed with the variety / options after a couple of days. There are three smallish bars serving up good drinks (with or without alcohol) and lots of waiters / waitresses seemingly always buzzing around to ensure everyone had a full glass. There is one pool down a few steps from the restaurant with some covered seating if you got there early enough plus loungers and tables in the sun. There are two beach areas - both severely lacking in covered seating areas. The main beach is good for both swimming and snorkelling and is in a high-banked cove so mostly protected from rough waters and wind. The second beach - down from the pool and also in a high-banked cove, is smaller and the water's edge is very rocky - not really swimmable. We hung out here most days as it was quieter and just steps up to the pool. I recommend sand / water shoes on both beaches as the sand has lots of coral shards in it and can be a bit rough to walk on in places. Bring your own snorkel gear if you have it. The resort also has a couple of kayaks you can use if you want. There is a spa although we didn't use it and a place where you can get a massage on the quiet beach. There is no kids club or teens club here and nor are there any scheduled beach or pool activities like at other resorts. The upside is that this makes it a quieter, more relaxing experience. The downside is if you're looking for a game of beach volleyball or pool aerobics, you won't find that here. We met some folks with older teens and they found the resort a bit sleepy. There was musical entertainment each night and mostly very good. There is a splash pool area for wee ones so you can entertain toddlers. Overall it was decent value for the high season week of Christmas / New Years but I would expect to pay much less for any other random December - February week. If you're looking to relax in a quiet, comfortable resort with great service and don't mind a bit of a walk to and from the rooms, this is a great choice - especially if you don't need to be wowed by the food (it's good and plentiful, just not a lot of variety and all buffet). If you're looking for more action, have older kids / teens, or want a great culinary experience, look elsewhere.
