Really enjoyed our stay. Very clean but a little dated. Food was not to bad. Staff where amazing very friendly and eager to please. Staff at front desk seemed a little disorganized and not that helpful. Language barrier could have been the problem. Hotel is close to everything. Taxi is very inexpensive. The beach club is very nice but short on lounging chairs and umbrellas. Water is a little rough for swimming but has a nice pool. Good staff and everything is kept clean. We would definitely go back.
The Santa Cruz Location is the Ideal!

We have enjoyed the Hotel Castillo Huatulco for about 12 years. It’s a very clean, friendly family hotel. The front Lobby staff and all staff at this hotel are absolutely outstanding. Within the last couple of years an additional section of the building has been added with many more modern rooms. All rooms either overlook the pool, the gardens or the street.
The Santa Cruz location of this hotel is ideal – it’s a short walk to the Santa Cruz beach and the Market and a shuttle bus or a 12-minute walk to the large Chahue Beach Club. Adjacent to the hotel we enjoyed daily walks over the mountain pathway into the delightful little town of La Crucecita. Taxis are also plentiful at a very low cost or the local bus runs right past the hotel.
Meals at the Castillo have a good selection. The location for lunch - under a huge Palapa at the Chahue Beach Club - is second to none. Other Santa Cruz restaurants and small coffee shops are all located close to the hotel.

I was pleasantly surprised about everything with this hotel! From check in to check out, the staff were super duper friendly and helpful, cleanliness at the hotel was above and beyond, and the location was spot on! The lobby bar was great...the bartenders were really friendly and attentive and the drinks were amazing :)
Hubby and I loved being able to walk out of the front lobby and be at restaurants, shops, and local beaches within minutes of walking. Literally everything you could want or need is just across the street. And if you need a change of scenery, there's a trolley that runs every 30 minutes from the hotel to the beach club! If you want to venture anywhere, taxis are readily available and reliable with consistent pricing. The equivalent of about $4CAD (including tip) gets you into La Crucecita town square. Can't ask for better! May I suggest you take a jaunt into Ricky's for dinner one evening...you won't regret trying their pizzas (I mean, who would have thought I would have found the best margarita pizza in Mexico? But I did!)
We found the food at the hotel okay for breakfast, and dinners were especially nice...the beach club offers up some amazing lunches including seafood and lots of traditional Mexican fare.
We will be going back in April for sure...thanks to everyone at Castillo for such an amazing stay, we heart you all!!!
Nice hotel, crowded facilities

I stayed in Castillo Huatulco about ten years ago and loved it. When I came back to vacation in Huatulco again, I decided to stay there again. My experience was not as good as previously. The problem is the hotel has added about 30 rooms but has not increased the capacity of other facilities. As a result, there are now lineups for every meal and it is hard to find a beach chair at the hotel or at the beach club unless you get an early start.
Good - The front desk staff, bellboys, and hotel bartenders are great. Front desk staff speaks good English. My room was very nice for a three-star and was kept immaculate. The in-room safe had a key rather than a code. Covid protocols are in place and all the staff wear masks. The Beach Club is great and the hammocks are very comfortable for an afternoon nap.
Bad -Facilities are overcrowded. The wait staff in the restaurant seemed less interested in North American guests than in Mexican guests. (I am willing to give a good tip, but you do have to show up at my table at some point during the meal.)
Other - Be aware that most of the guests in this hotel are Mexican; I think that gives more of an immersive experience, but if you want all your luxuries just like at home and you expect all the staff to speak good English, this is not the place for you. Breakfast is probably their best meal. There is a grill where they will make omelets or quesadillas for you. The wifi exists but is spotty as to location. Try different locations in your room, or even down the hall, to find a place with a good connection. According to the lifeguard, the ocean at the beach club is most likely to be swimmable in the morning. In the afternoon it is too rough. They have added shows on weekend evenings (typical village dancing etc.) but the shows are pretty low-key.
I had a terrace room facing the street. The front-desk staff said the North American guests usually ask for those rooms. The terrace is too hot during the day but can be pleasant in the evening. There was not that much street noise.
Thin walls, noisy neighbors

We came to Huatulco to participate in a Triathlon and chose the hotel for it’s location. The hotel is clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms of the new area are ok, the A/C is quite good.
My reason to give it a poor review is because the walls are paper thin, you can hear people talking in the hall and I could hear the tv on in the next room, at 2am! I called the front desk and could hear the phone in the next room ring and the person there would not pick up, I also heard when the went to knock on their door. I called several times and the staff tried , I guess, the best they could. So my poor review is because I think this should not happen, the staff tried what they could and the construction is shabby.
