Three weeks on my own - what a great place to do it!

Laurel W (Vancouver Island, Canada) on Jan 26, 2023

I spent 3 weeks in Huatulco and stayed at the Villa Blanca. The first week (starting xmas day evening) I was on my own and then had family arrive but staying in a condo Jan 1. My stay at VB was excellent, it's an older hotel but it has Mexican charm and a family atmosphere that was great to feel included. The hotel is very clean and the staff were terrific! There were a lot of staff that spoke English very well and some who didn't - my Spanish is terrible so their patience and smiles were very welcome as I stumbled through their beautiful language. The large pool and deck were very welcome for lounging around the pool and the restaurant is also terrific! Their catch of the day dinners and steak bbq are amazing and I recommend staying in those nights. The rest of the menu is great as well. My family members who are still in Huatulco are still going to the restaurant. They have a restaurant location in Santa Cruz with beach front seats as well which is equally as good. I highly recommend this hotel and it's staff.

A great comfortable smaller hotel.

Ted B (Kamloops, Canada) on Dec 27, 2022

Stayed here for a week, after coming from an all inclusive for a week stay. Arrived early for check in and we only had to wait a short bit for our room to be ready. We had a room on the third floor with a partial view of the pool. It has a smaller balcony and this room had a upper floor where the bed was located. This room is very large given the bed is upstairs and seperate from the couch, table and chairs and the tv. Bathroom is downstairs. Can be a little scary coming down the stairs at night to go to the bathroom, just hold on to the railing. The floor upstairs is all wood and does squeak a lot which woke the wife up on a few occasions. Air conditioning was upstairs by the bed, worked well. Bathroom has shower, but there was not much pressure and water was warm at best. Signed up for the package that included breakfast. Definately worth it to do this. Breakfast was excellent. Eggs made fresh any way you wanted, good bacon, not like at the buffet, way better. They also had a selection of other hot food, toast and fruit. Coffee was very good. We ate lunch here on number of occasions and the food was alway hot and fresh and very tasty. We also had one dinner here and food was also very good. They do a couple of specialty nights including catch of the day and BBQ night. Drinks were fairly reasonable, i believe a beer was 40 pesos ( $3.00 Canadian). Staff was excellent, very friendly and service was good. They served you around the pool. Everything closed by about 10 -11 pm. They had music twice in the week, was finished by about 9 pm. The pool is nice, doesn't look like a lot of chairs or loungers but we never had a problem finding a seat. Pool area never really busy. Met lots of lovely people. Mostly Canadians and a few Mexicans staying here. Pool area can be noisy if there are kids. Some small children that screamed. Would like to see them clean the pool deck a bit more, there was a number of iguana's in the trees that left poop around. A lot of guests we talked to came back year after year. Of note the internet is really bad here, so if you are thinking of doing some work while here you will struggle. Overall loved it and would return.

Loft Rooms

525billjohn (Ottawa, Canada) on Dec 11, 2022

We spent six nights, November 25-30, 2022 in a third-floor loft, Room 302, while waiting for our AirB&B to become vacant on December 1st. The room had a small fridge, coffee maker, table with four chairs, sofa & TV with only Spanish channels. We were in a loft room because we read a review that said a room overlooking the pool was noisy. The loft room was very inconvenient because of the stairs which we considered unsafe. The bed was in the loft and if you got up during the night you had to turn on the lights to use the bathroom which was downstairs near the room entrance. We had two balconies, one with a jacuzzi that we never used, the other overlooked the street. The room was clean and usually the staff had the room cleaned by noon. We had the buffet breakfast included with our room and no lunch was necessary. The dinner menu was varied, not overly expensive and quite good. There was entertainment every night we were there. The staff at the front desk and the dining room staff were friendly and helpful. The rooms on the ground floor adjacent to the pool in our experience were all reserved for returning guests. These rooms had a small private space outside, some with privacy. Overall I would rate the hotel a 3.5.

One hot week in Huatulco

Elsie64 (Saskatoon, Canada) on Nov 29, 2022

I would rate this hotel about a 3.5 star. We were first put in junior suite #317 with the loft and stairs and found it to be very dark. Divina at the front desk was super helpful and the next day we were happy to be moved to room #211 which is a two bed room overlooking the pool area and includes a small fridge and dining table with 4 chairs. Main floor rooms near the pool seem to only go to long term guests. My only issue with the rooms is that the showers have very poor water pressure. The food at this hotel is good, we especially enjoyed the Friday night steak bbq. Ricardo was our favourite waiter, but we did find the service to be a bit slower than what we’re accustomed to in other Mexico locations. There is usually some sort entertainment every evening, we really enjoyed listening to a band called The Troublemakers. We felt the pool could have been cleaned more frequently but liked that it was never hard to get a spot to sit. Location of the hotel was on a busier street than we’d expected. It’s about a 20 min walk to downtown, but really close to the local supermarket. The nearby beach does not offer shade and the waves are quite rough so we took a cab to other beaches or caught a ride with Alex who works in the lobby offering tours, etc.

Good location and clean. Next time coming to Huatulco, staying in another hotel or Airbnb better. Employees discriminate. Disapp

Rooms are clean, and location is good. The reason I rated 1 star is because hotel employees discriminate Hispanics. It's very obvious the difference of the attention they give to others. Most people staying here are foreign, American or Canadian. They get very good attention. When sitting at the pool area, they never ask us if we need anything. Next two tables were sitting foreign people and got a menu. The reason they finally approached us was because I was drinking a beer that I bought outside the hotel, and I was told that I could just drink in my room with outside purchases. 2 days later, there was a group of foreign sitting in the pool area drinking can beers that were purchased outside. They had a 24 pack drinking without a problem. Water pressure is very low and half the time no hot water. So if you are local or Hispanic I don't recommend staying in this hotel. When Americans arrive they are received with drinks.
