Posado Hotel Ixtapa, Mexico

Jackolyne (Cottonwood, Arizona) on Dec 13, 2022

The hotel is under renovation. The noise of Jack hammering and hammers all day long and into the evening is all one heard. Entrances blocked off. This information was not relayed when booking. No one would respond to our concerns over the constant noise. There was no compensation for all the inconveniences. We were booked for 14 days. Restaurant is ok. But not great. There are not enough chairs in the shade. Pool is nice but usually very crowded. Lots of families so quite noisy. And lots of people playing their own music so again very noisy. The rooms are ok but could use a good scrubbing. Mattresses and pillows need to be replaced. Hallways are very noisy at times (usually evening) with children running and playing. The staff in all departments was excellent. They work hard. The grounds are well maintained and are attractive.

Posada Real Trip summary

sunsetseeker494 (Edmonton, Canada) on Apr 07, 2022

My spouse and I statyed at the Posada Real from March 23 to April 6th. We have mixed feelings leaving this hotel. First night, after what felt like a long day of flying. We were famished, we were able to get a basic hamburger and some chips to snack on until dinner time. Dinner time here begins at 7pm. Thought that was rather late but no big deal. We were the first people at the buffet. The food was very bland and also for being just set out it was also either luke warm or cold. The al carte that night was beef and tortillas. The server for the al carte didn't speak any English, but overall not a major concern. I personally went up to the desert area to see what they had for sweets. I picked out a couple of strawberry cake squares. I brought them to our table and had a bite. while i was chewing the first bite I looked at my plate and there were dozens of little tiny spider like insects crawling all over my food and plate... Needless to say this was a very bad first impression on our overall experience with the food here at the Posada. We booked our trip to the Posada with a full all inclusive plan. The quality of the food here was overall pretty bad. Under seasoned, cold or just badly cooked leftover food. We don't eat seafood, and it sounds like it was a good thing as we had heard there were other travelers that got sick from poor food handling practices. We ate breakfasts mostly from the al carte having mostly omelet's or having the morning cook reheat hash browns on the grill. The food prep there was even pretty sketchy, using one bowl to mix up any and all eggs that were to go on the griddle using the same fork to mix up the eggs dab it in the salt and repeat.. thankfully we didnt get sick from the food. We ended up eating at the restaurants up the road or in Zihua most of the time. The rooms were clean but basic. Hard firm beds (if it is your preference). The maids took their time to make towel figures on the beds. That was a nice little touch. The bathroom in our room was redone but it was starting to show its wear and tear. We booked for a mountain view room but we were surprised to get an ocean view room. So the view was great and was nice to wake up to. Our view from our room afforded us the view to the dolphin tank next door, and we were able to watch the trainers feed the dolphins every morning. Kinda neat... The staff at the front desk were nice and polite and helpful in assisting us in booking reservations and getting our laundry done. Albeit, the laundry service was very expensive. We had no issues with any of the staff, just wished there was a little more English spoken. There was no nightly activities here at all. Maybe due to lack of space available. But that was a little disappointing especially when you can hear all the festivities going on at the hotels next door like the Park Royal, and the Tesoro. But the big question... Would I go back to this hotel should we decide to return to Ixtapa. Probably not. Paying for an all inclusive and not eating there due to poor food handling/storage and serving, that's a pretty big deal to me. We ended up spending a lot more money then intended on eating out every night then anticipated. I've been to the Posada Real in San Jose del Cabo and it was a MUCH better experience overall then here. The food there was good, fresh and properly handled. Plus there was some type of entertainment.

Newly remodeled rooms with ocean view balconies!

roadlesstraveledguy (Cannon Falls, Minnesota) on May 10, 2019

The Posada Real has been my go to hotel in Ixtapa for many years and I'm pleased to share photos of their recent remodeling! They are adding balconies to the ocean side of the hotel and have remodeled these rooms, bathrooms & showers. Also the remodeled rooms have new softer beds for us gringos! I'm still glad to see they have the same friendly and attentive staff, some of whom who have worked at the hotel for over 30 years. I have stayed at other hotels in Ixtapa/Zihuatanejo but when I stay at the Posada Real it feels like I'm staying with friends!

Wonderful family stay

CamilleAutumn on Apr 14, 2019

The location, beach, pools, staff & cleanliness was excellent! At about 10:30pm everything quiets down for the night, which was perfect for our family vacation. We loved that is was a small resort, easy to get around. The food was just okay, but there are many great restaurants near by. The resort building & furniture are a bit run down. Otherwise we can’t say enough good things about Posada Real Ixtapa! We will go again.

Quiet and clean and very affordable.

Vera D (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) on Apr 07, 2019

This is a great little place. While you can find more luxury resorts, this one is great value. It's a small place (110 rooms). Only has one restaurant. Not a huge selection but certainly satisfied. Breakfast was fabulous. The staff is very helpful and friendly. The pool is wonderful and I'm thinking the best beach. Sadly, the treadmills in the fitness area weren't working, but I ran outside instead. It's a very safe place. The hotel has some balconies now and it looks like they're adding more. I wish I knew we could have upgraded to a balcony room. My biggest beef is that they wouldn't give us two keys for our room.
