Beware of add on taxes and fees. We reserved a King bed Suite on a Wednesday night July 2024 stay. Room rate was CAD 510.57 - on top of the room charge here are their fees added onto my folio: 6.43 - Destination marketing fee 41.36 - Provincial sales tax 15.51 - MRDT 12.93 - Major Events MRDT 29.34 - Room - GST 30.00 - Hotel Guest Parking 7.20 - Transit Levy - Parking 1.86 - Parking GST My math calculations reveal CAD add ons for taxes and fees to be 144.63 nightly. Outrageous! The room was refurbished in this older property, but not a luxury property to me by any stretch. Location downtown is great. Locked underground self-parking for the car. To me, this is a 3 star property. The eleventh floor corner room looked out at the roof of BC place. Any city scape views were mostly obstructed. The hallway carpeting is worn and bunched up/wrinkled in places. Laminate flooring in the room. AC worked good. However, the Sylvia Beach Hotel will get my future business. The hotel was clean and well organised. It is situated in a central location opposite the stadium. We had a view of the spectacular light show on the roof of the stadium from our room. Frankies restaurant is on site which is very convenient. We had 2 good meals there during our stay and the service was excellent especially from Neil from the Philippines who was our charming waiter last Thursday evening.

Day light robbery! They took 75 dollars from my bank account supposedly to be on hold for incidentals, but said that it never went through, and asked me for another card, which they took another 75 dollars on hold. I showed them the transaction on my bank account that it clearly has been taken out of my first account. They said it’s been refunded. 24 days later, no refund, and no answer to any of my numerous emails. My bank wants a transaction number to track the supposed refund, but the hotel is refusing to acknowledge my emails. Sour taste to my holiday and the hotel does not care they have taken money from me that I have not spent.

From walking in the door mid-morning a warm welcome from all the staff. I arrived mid-morning from a cruise and expected the room not to be available and it wasn't but they stored my luggage until i returned. On my return earlier than expected 2.00 pm the room was available. Tenth floor beautiful room, decor, facilities spot on , The only thing is [it might be me] but the shower enclosure which was large two sliding doors. The base was a bit Slippy and there was no handrail. or i could not find a shower mat. Otherwise, tea, coffee machine bed linen spot on Breakfast served at Frankies adjacent to the hotel. Reasonable price. Ideal location i found for main street. But i was only there one and a half days. Staff, location, hotel, excellent.

BEST EXPERIENCE. The staff was extremely kind and accommodating. In particular, Jose was always there with a smile and an offer to help. He hailed cabs, hauled luggage, suggested restaurants—you name it, he did it. In addition, the food at the restaurant was outstanding and every single server was kind. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable. The location was perfect. We parked our car and walked most places.
