A decent first-time all inclusive experience but we won't be going back.

Our family of four, including two adults and two teenagers, had a decent experience at our first all-inclusive stay. We initially booked the Barcelo Caribe but were transferred to the Barcelo Colonial without any explanation, which was slightly irritating, although it wasn't a major issue since both properties are similar. The Good: - The service from all staff members and room cleaners is generally pleasant. - The pool and beach areas were satisfactory with the beach having minimal seaweed, which was fortunate considering our stay in August. - The food and service at the specialty restaurants were excellent—we were permitted four visits during our week-long stay—with the Mexican and Steak restaurants being particularly noteworthy. The buffet food was adequate, although it became monotonous after several days. - The resort grounds were well-kept and pleasant for strolling. The Bad: - The room had a somewhat musty odor, which could be attributed to its proximity to the beach. - The bathroom intermittently emitted a sewage-like odor throughout the week, although there were no apparent problems with the toilet. - The bed was quite uncomfortable due to the overly soft mattresses, to the extent that my 105-pound wife complained about sinking into them. - The night time entertainment was average - certainly below the Cruise Ship entertainment. Bottom Line: This location is suitable for an all-inclusive vacation if you're not anticipating a five-star experience. It consistently presents a four-star experience. It's important to be cautious in the shower, as one of our teenagers fell ill due to carelessness—remember to keep your mouth closed when showering. Additionally, we aren't heavy drinkers, so we can't offer much insight into the quality or selection of the alcohol.
